Randomness Friday: Books A-Plently!

Welcome, welcome to my favorite day of the week- Friday!!!

Today I'm actually doing a topic for this week's post. (I know, right? How weird is that???)

Books!
~*~

But, first, allow me to extend a special welcome to AGoMC's latest follower... *drumroll*

Sierra!!!!

Welcome, Sierra and thank you for joining! :)
~*~

So, my friend Buttercup commented on my last post on A Summer's Secret by Kathleen Fuller. You all have noticed my little notes at the bottoms of my review of books lately, right?

That's because I have joined two reviewing sites that lets bloggers keep the books they review in exchange for an honest, well written review.

Pretty cool, huh?

Here are the sites:
BookSneeze (Thomas Nelson Publishers)
Tyndale Media Center (Tyndale Publishers)

So, both are Christian and both are awesome. All sorts of books are on there- fiction, non-fiction, adult, kids, you name it. It's sort of like a grab bag, you have to be pretty fast to catch a good read. I've reviewed several books from each site, so I give it my stamp of safety approval.

However, I suggest you speak with your parents about this. As they send the books to your home, the sites ask for your full name and address. Only join if your parents say it's okay. I believe there is also an age limit somewhere, but I'm not sure.

Booksneeze also publishes your reviews on their site, allowing the name you provide to be published along with it. So the name you provide is up to you, mine is "Prism Book Reviews" as you can see if you click on the below button:
I review for BookSneeze

I've been finding several other sites recently, but have yet to be replied to. If I get a reply, I'll be sure to post about it on here.
~*~

Speaking of books to review, I recently received TWO new books from author Nancy Rue!

Pretty cool, huh? I think so, and I'll be reviewing them in the coming month.
~*~

Summer is almost here for me! I can barely hold the excitement in! My plans?

1. Reading a TON
2. Horseback riding for the first time in a long time!
3. College prep! (Eh, summer can't be too perfect)
4. A trip to...DISNEY WORLD!

Yeah, it's totally awesome. I can't wait! I've never been before.
~*~

Until Monday, y'all!

Randomness Friday

This super-cool banner was made by none other than the amazing Eruanna!

As far as I know, this is the last entry for my little banner competition. If anyone is still interested, I am asking for a blog button with the words "Randomness Friday" that will link to this blog. Whoever can meet the requirements and wins the contest will be given credit in EVERY RF post I do. I will set up a way to vote by means of a poll after all entries come in. DEADLINE IS NEXT WEEK! =D

Btw, ya'll don't need to feel sad if you don't win. None of you will be losers. I am going to put all submitted RF banners into my sidebar and give credit to you amazing people when the winner is decided.

Any questions, any comments, feel free to voice!

~*~

*The Formalities*

Welcome to Randomness Friday! This recently-made official blog carnival was started by me, and it went on for a while before I decided to make it something everyone can do. If you'd like to see what all of the happenings are about go to this post.

The following have posted and are doing/going to do RF:

1. Isirian
2. Just a Girl 4 God
3. Libby
4. Eruanna
5. Maggie

~*~

Please welcome...*drum roll*

Camellia Dayla

and

Amy

These amazing gals have been nice enough to click that little "follow" button to enlist themselves into the "Awesome people who are nice enough to listen to the ramblings of little ol' Prism" list!

You two will be added to my "Awesomeful Followers" post under "Prism's Favorite Posts" immediately following the post-age (I think that would be the word...) of this, well, post.

~*~

Just so ya'll know, the next RF will be a tad different. It'll be 95% centered around the Randomness Friday (RF) banners. So be sure to submit your designs if you want to enter!

~*~

Tip: Don't save for tomorrow what can be done today.

This little saying applies to school, work, and life in general. I found this out very recently. 'Tis never best to procrastinate, yes?

Not only will you be done faster, but I've noticed other people (such as you teacher, boss, co-workers, ect.) will have a higher opinion of you. You can also prevent (most times) being overwhelmed.

~*~

I have had a cold/terrible allergies for the past few days. Yes, I went to school because it was bearable, absenses count against be, and I didn't really think I had a genuine cold. But it still made me feel terrible.

Sicknessess. Ugh.

Oh, and all of this worry about H1N1! Two people in my class have gotten it, but they're back now with a clean bill of health.

I have been praying, sanitizing, and hand-washing all week, ya'll.

Randomness Friday!

Randomness Friday

This amazing banner was made by none other than Emii. Doesn't it just rock?

Those of you whose banners haven't been posted yet- do not fear they will be...

*Formalities, formalities*

Welcome to Randomness Friday, an official blog carnival that I have abbreviated "RF"! Those of you who are new to AGoMC (girl of many colors) may want to take a look at this post to see what all of the commotion is all about.

PARTICIPANTS

The following have posted and are doing/going to do RF:

1. Isirian
2. Just a Girl 4 God
3. Libby
4. Eruanna
5. Maggie
6. Emii

Several others have expressed interest in RF. Just remember I can't add you to the list until you've posted! And if I've missed anyone, please let me know!

~*~
Give it up for Libby! She's been around for some time, but she's now an official "Awesome Person Who Listens To The Ramblings of Prism"!

~*~

Test time!!!

Okay, so its that time again. As schools really get into the swing of things, we begin to have to worry about tests. I don't know about you, but I'm in my second round of tests in my homeschooling, and I'm almost done with my first round in public school.( For those new to my blog, I do half at home, half at an preparatory college setting)

I know how hard it is, especially when you're shocked by a hard test, a bad grade, a teacher who (to put it nicely) should have picked another profession, ect.
BUT! Just know you're not the only one. It's hard. Especially for those like me who are stepping out of homeschooling to the world of public school for the first time. Just W-H-O-A.

I suggest prayer. Lots of it. I prayed for you all for the past couple of days because, wow, you people rock.

~*~

Today is Constitution Day, for ya'll who are wondering... I found that out because our school gave out free snacks. Interesting, no?

~*~

I just realized I haven't had a poll in the longest of times. Right after I finish this, I'm definitely going to put one up, as random as it may be.

~*~

I recently discovered I like Chinese food. And the whole reason for this is because I had been going to terrible places all my life. It wasn't until we went to this EXCELLENT place (*cough* and pretty costly too, may I add) that I found out it's not my least favorite food. I mean, I can't handle seafood AT ALL, and that was mostly what was available at the places I went to. It'll probably be a once-a-year-deal. Our bill was a little over 100 dollars, and our family can usually survive a meal with a $7 pizza.

~*~

No horse riding this week... Rain, rain, rain.

Official Blog Carnival!

Randomness Friday is now an official blog carnival!

Who It's For: Those Who Just LOVE being random. I mean, everyone needs a dose from time to time. No need to follow my blog. I just require that you give me your blog link so I can put it in a list. Your blog will be added onto the list when you post a RF.

When: You don't need to do it every week as I do. Maybe one RF a month if you have time constraints. BUT you have more of a chance of being featured on GoMC if you post every week.

Requirements:
Randomness Friday MUST be somewhere in the title.

I'd greatly appreciate if those of you who want to do RF would link it back to me. I'm not demanding it, but again, it would be much appreciated. Once in a while I'll highlight some especially good RFs (funny, deep, just plain random, and ect.)Maybe with each post just put "This blog carnival was created by Prism" =

I do have some very strict rules about RF

1. Appropriate
2. Uplifting
3. Random!

These are just some general rules, right? Don't post anything you wouldn't want your family or maybe a seven year old seeing. Honor God with your words.

Have fun, and be sure to comment if you are interested!!!

Oh, and those of you good an computer images, if you come up with a banner for Randomness Friday and I'll give you credit in every RF post I do.

S-u-g-a-r

Okay, just to give you a quick update....

School was great! I loved today. Science rocks, especially the classroom setting. I actually got to ASK my teacher a question instead of rewinding a tape. Mind you, video/online learning is GREAT! I've really improved due to it, but it just feels amazing to be able to interact. All the students WANt to be there like me, and I'm luvin' it! Of course, everything just starting and everyone's getting to know each other, but what I've seen so far I like.

I'm pretty sugar high at the moment.... In case any of you are wondering. I mean, the title wasn't too obvious. But I feel SO hyper. You see, I got home for the first time in two weeks without being sleepy and sad, but today was a different story.

And to make it better, I got sprite! Oh, YEAH! I almost never get soda, so I was pretty happy. You may think I'm crazy, but I assure you... I, well, might be SOMETIMES but I'm a pretty sane person... right?

*mutters to self* I think I'm sane...

ANYWAY! I want to welcome two new readers who joined during the weekend...

joelle (Love your name!!! I know how a new language is...but you can do it!)

and

Alec Kindred! (Hel-lo! Flying? Awesomeness!)

After I post this, well, post, I'll be sure to update the...post I did a while back that lists all of my followers.

BTW, I've said this before, and will continue to say it... You people ROCK!

Randomness Friday: School's In!

Wow. This week has been something else. I've been homeschooled for over four years, and getting back to a public school setting- even if for half a day- is very interesting and challenging. I've never been so exhausted in my life as I've been these past three days. I'm looking forward to getting into some work, but at the same time, extremely nervous. Thank you so much all who prayed.

The funny this is, I was SO down yesterday. Utter hopelessness... confusion... a bit of sadness...
My mom could obviously see this, and she pushed me into my room with a, "Rest, and spend some time with God."

So I did...

And it gave me so much peace! I did my devos, prayed, and just closed my eyes for a while. It was incredible. I mean, really.

But I feel like I've no time! How to you public schoolers and private schoolers do anything???

Before, for me, it's homeschool/ get homework done (sounds like an oxymoron...).... relax...go to my regular evening activity... come back and chill with the family...bed

But, now???? Homeschool.... homework from that... school.... homework from that...evening activity...maybe some more homework...bed...

Then there's the effort of making friends. It's hasn't been too hard, but when everyone knows each other from their high school... I've been privileged to have some people include me. They rock... It'll probably take some time to get into it, I guess. The cliques or friend groups are already forming, and I don't ever want to intrude... *sigh* But it's not a total culture shock...
Yet, I'm starting to think that I'm missing the extremely focused atmosphere I have at this desk. (I do all of my courses online, so this is basically my schoolroom)

~*~

So for most of you, this is your first school day, so just know that I'm praying for you, whether or not I know your name.

Randomness Friday

First week of school- done! Wow… this week has been hectic. Figuring out schedules, getting work done, and planning for next week where I start going to another place in the afternoons. (This time next week I’ll be there…) It’ll definitely be interesting going back to a public school-like environment. I don’t think I’ll EVER say that life isn’t an adventure. Thank you all so much for praying for me.

~*~

Okay, so last Saturday I did what (for me) was the unthinkable- I loped for the first time! That’s right, me, on Mist, loping. It was definitely different from trotting. I have to work on balance, I must admit. My saddle started moving to the side when I put too much weight on my left leg. Oh, and talk about fast! The book I read on horseback riding described the feel as a “rocking horse” motion. When I think of rocking horse, I think of a swing-like motion or one of those teeter-totter things.
Well, this wasn’t exactly it.
When I got off of her, the first thing I breathlessly said was, “Rabid rocking horse.”

But seriously, it was exhilarating. I can’t wait to do it again.

~*~

My family has just been in the movie mood lately. I mean, we NEVER watch movies unless they are being shown on TV. Now we’re getting them from the library, on demand, and such. Anyways, several years ago, my dad bought Lord of the Rings, and he was determined to watch it at least once every year. It’s that time of the year.

No objections here, obviously. The movies are cool, and I just love creepy. Not until recently, mind you. If you had seen me watching it for the first time *shakes head*
You’d think I was there with the characters, screaming my head off at least once in every scene (Orcs, you know. Oh, and Gollum, the Uruk-hai, and then the ultra- creepy spider in the last one *side note: she has a name, but I forgot it. Haven’t seen three yet this year! Anyone know it?*).
Oh, and then there’s the thing kids do when they don’t want to see something, but still sorta do. Ever seen it?
They’ll cover their eyes, but in like two seconds they’ll peep through their fingers.
Yep, that was me.

But not now! I really enjoyed watching 1 and 2, and I’m REALLY looking forward to possibly watching number three tonight. It may involve some begging *winks*

Now those of you who know me really well might be wondering where Lil’ Sis goes when we watch PG-13 movies, which is one once a year when we watch LoTR. This is her first year with us, so our family had to make adjustments to go from teens to teens and a toddler.

She watches Veggie tales. Oh, yeah! I love those movies too and we collected as many as we could for her. I mean, hel-lo! Cute AND good lessons! Plus there’s a Veggie tale play on Lord of the Rings. Really cute.

But, being as those movies generally only last thirty minutes as opposed to, what, two hours?, I have to run over there every so often when she yells, “*Prism*!!! Me done!”

And that’s loads of fun, obviously…

Randomness Friday: I'm in Middle School???!!!

Apparently, I’m still in middle school…

First off, let me start with some facts about myself for you who are newcomers or don’t know much about me…

  1. I’m pretty tiny (Asian people usually are)
  2. I don’t wear makeup
  3. I skipped a grade (1st, so no big deal…)

Today we went school shopping at Wal-Mart. No brainer, right? Low prices and a convenient location. So we were there about an hour, and when we went to check out, there was a woman in her twenties at the register.

Seeing all of our school supplies, she asked, “Ready to go back to school?”

“Yes,” I said, smiling politely, trying to ignore Lil’ Sis’s bellowed version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”.

She was a little surprised and asked, “Seriously? You want summer to end?”

My mom said, “She’s been bored.”

Well, in truth I sorta do want summer to be over, so I said, “Yeah. I’ve been so bored all summer!”

She then commented on how good that was for my mom and all…

After ringing up a few more items, she turned to me again. “So what grade are you going to? Seventh?”

“Um…no… I’m in the middle of high school.”

She seemed a little embarrassed. “Oh…Well… You’re just so…skinny!”

I think she meant small…

Of course, I was a teensy bit uncomfortable and didn’t know what to say. “Oh, um, thank you- I mean, that’s okay…”

Then she said that I’ll be able to pass for someone younger a lot when I’m a lot older, and how much I’ll love it. Which, I suppose I will, in a way. I’m enjoying it quite a bit nowadays… I love shocking people with my real age.

While we were on our way out, my mom and sister (Artista) tried to find reasons why she might have thought I was still in middle school. Might as well mention Lil’ Sis was still singing…

My mom thought it was because of the fact that I don’t really like glopping heavy makeup on my face. (Glopping… ha! New word, ya’ll!)

Artista thought it might’ve been the fact that I was wearing clothes from the girls section of a store instead of juniors… (Okay, hel-lo! It was the only section I could find fitting clothes until VERY recently!)

*shrugs* Who knows? But we got a laugh out of it.

It’s funny, actually… A LOT of people have taken me for a little kid. Even other girls my age! Like at the library, we signed up for the summer reading program, and the teen girls thought I was still in elementary school.

Wowzers. This is just too funny.

But you know what? I’ve learned that my smallness is God-planned. I may hate it at times (especially when trying to play basketball… *sigh*)

But guess what? I’m like a PRO at hide-and-go-seek (can fit into a washing machine ya’ll!) and I think being small is a good thing for riding horses, which I adore.

I used to hate my height and build, but now.... *sings McDonalds song* badadadaDA! I’m lovin’ it!

Randomness Friday

Okay, so I'm thinking about making a blog button. You know, a picture that links to a blog. The thing is, I'm not sure whether or not I can make one, and then there's the issue of getting an actual picture. I'm putting up a poll asking you whether or not I should make one, so please vote! If it's approved, I'll start posting pictures I've found and asking for sites/pictures that I can find the perfect one.

~*~

Speaking of polls, the results are in for "What do YOU want to see on GoMC?"
Oh, I just noticed it rhymed! *laughs*

Anyways, Part One:

Randomness 4 (23%)
Videos/ Music 3 (17%)
Serious Stuff 1 (5%)
About Prism 1 (5%)
All of the Above 8 (47%)

~~~~
Part Two:
Video/Music 1 (7%)
Horse Tales 4 (28%)
Stories 2 (14%)
Art 2 (14%)
All of the Above 5 (35%)
So, I see more randomness and horse tales in the future along with a sprinkling of the other posts in the future. Ah, looks pretty bright!
~*~
Many of you may be wondering just exactly why I haven't been posting about my horse adventures AT ALL. The reason?
I haven't ridden since the 4th of July. *nods at the collective gasp*
It's sad, yeah? But the owner of the horse I ride is out of town, and I have to say I don't feel to comfortable riding without a horse person supervising. I had to give myself a reality check.
Hello, Prism? You've only been riding for less than two months!!!
I can't say I'm enjoying my time away from horses, but I'm not going to pout about it. *grins* I watched a TON of movies this week.
Including:
~Prince Caspian: Okay. Didn't stick too much to the book, though. Understandable, but why the kiss?! I mean, they're never going to see each other again!
~Wall-E: I just love that movie. Enough said. *grins*
~Oliver and Co.: Okay, an old Disney movie that I had to watch with my younger sisters. It was okay, but I personally didn't like it.
~*~
School starts in less than two weeks for me. Okay.... *starts hyperventilating*
Where did thou go, summer?
Ya'll who start around the 20th, be grateful. *winks*
Okay, okay. I don't hate school that much. Actually, my favorite subjects are history, english, and Bible. I'm not doing as much electives as I had to last year (boy, was that hectic) so it's all good.
I'll miss P.E., though...
And there's just a feeling deep, deep inside of me that's telling me that this year of school is going to be so fun!
~*~
God Bless!
Randomness Friday!
Has anyone noticed my picture change? It's a teensy bit hard to tell, but it is a prism. Funny that my blogger name would be Prism because when I was in second or third grade, I did a project on rainbows and bought a prism. I can remember parading around the gym at school with the piece of glass in my hands, marveling at the rainbow it could produce.
Isn't it weird how things that kept us busy for hours on end can seem like nothing when we get older? Then it was crayons, shells, flowers, and butterflies. Now it's computers, books, iPods, and thumb drives.
Not that the change is bad, but I sort of miss that little-child wonder. And faith.
Remember how Jesus said that we should have the faith of child? I automatically think of Lil' Sis.
For the past month and a half, I've been teaching her English words, mostly counting and the alphabet. But what I thought was most important was the things my mom taught her from that first day she was given to us in India.
"Thank you, Jesus. Amen!" Her cute little voice says it so enthusiastically. She may not understand fully what she is doing, but I believe she understands more than we think her to.
Every time two lines cross like a...well, cross. She says, "Jesus, thank you. Amen!"
Same thing with a picture of Jesus or Artista's (my sister) clay sculptures of Him. It's amazing, really. Just tell her something once, and she knows it.
Today we were looking through a book titled "My Bible ABC's" It's not a complex book or anything, just the letter with a words that starts with it along with a picture. And everything was Bible-related.
She pointed to a picture of a star and said, "The twinkle twinkle little star is praying" (in a mix of her original language and English, of course)
I immediately gaped at her and I'm sure I had a goofy grin on my face.
"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork..."
~*~
On Saturday I got to give a horse a bath!!! It was fun, lathering soap in her black mane and coat and blabbering silly nonsense. I've read books where horse-owners like talking to their horses because their great listeners. That is SO true. She kept on swiveling her ear back to listen to me, and when my mom's cell phone alarm went off she turned around and stared at me with a look that made me burst into laughter.
Funny story about that cell phone, by the way...
We had to leave horse riding early on Saturday because I had a violin lesson, and my violin teacher has a busy schedule. So I couldn't do anything to change it. We planned to leave at 11:30 so I could shower and eat lunch to make it at 1:45. So my dad handed me my mom's cell phone that she had let him borrow (he has his own. It was so I could call either him or home just in case) He told me to set an alarm. I did, but noticed the volume was on level five out of a possible seven.
I changed it to seven, of course. When you're outdoors and washing a horse, something needs to be extremely loud to break one from their horse reverie.
So right on time, it beeped. The horse startled and turned her mighty neck around to stare at me as it continued beeping.
And beeping...
And beeping...
My hands were VERY soapy and I didn't want to reach into my jeans to turn the thing off! I'd risk wet pants, a water-logged electronic device, and a very uncomfortable ride home.
And beeping...
Finally my dad drove up and I ran to him to tell him the time and my dilemma. He got it for me and made the phone cease its annoying song.
But that wasn't the end of my phone troubles...
Anyway, I finished the bath, hopped in the car, and made it just fine to violin class.
Fast forward to church the next day...
I think you may be able to tell what's coming.
We were there at the back of the church, listening to the sermon. The clock struck 11:30 AM
BEEP BEEP!
BEEP BEEP!
trust me, in a silent church, the highest volume on a phone is L-O-U-D.
BEEEEEEEEEEP! BEEEEEEEEEP!
My mom just sat there, thinking it was the people in front of us, but I knew it was ours. I frantically motioned for her to reach inside her purse, open the thing, and make it cease.
I must have looked like a clown because once it stopped, I heard snickers from the people behind us.
My mom fixed me with that world-famous plant-withering, ice-melting glare.
I sank down in my seat, begging God to make me disappear. But, at the same time, a giggle bubbled up my throat.
That was the first thing we discussed in the car. Since that day we had taken two cars (my dad and I had to go earlier than my mom, Artista, and Lil' Sis) it was only my Dad and I. He thought the whole affair was hilarious so we had a good time joking around.
My mother wasn't as amused, but she has a streak of humor, so we had fun with it too.
Turns out that once the phone has an alarm, it repeats unless you disable it. I hadn't known that.
I've now been banned from touching it.
*laughs* It's all cool. I don't mind much. Technology CAN be evil, and that phone sure is!
Randomness Friday
You were probably expecting this post, huh? I love these types of posts, and I'm sorry I've been doing more silly than serious lately, but I promise that I'm working on some posts that are really close to my heart.
Without further ado, bring out the random stuffs!
Two days ago we found a tick on my precious dog, Belle. I freaked out. I mean, we could be classified as living in the "country", but it's quickly becoming more populated. Therefore, I've seen my share of wild animals.
From mice to deer, from tarantulas to scorpions... And now ticks.
Belle's a little thing. We were told by the dog breeder that sold her to us that she is part papillion, part pomeranian. Sure...
Now, I highly suspect that the woman who sold her to us in a McDonald's parking lot owned some kind of not-so-good setup.
Anyways, my little blondie came in at night and I started scratching her tummy, which I don't do very often because Belle usually only goes belly-up when she's nervous or something. However, I had noticed that she was acting all dull and tired, so I started playing with her to get her up and moving.
That's when I felt the lump. My dad looked closer, and, sure enough there was a tick.
I'm not going into details or anything, but it made my stomach churn with nausea.
I've said it before, and I'm saying it again. I am most definitely NOT going to be a surgeon when I grow up. Stitches and other things having to do with surgery are my worst nightmare.
*cheesy music* It's now time for Prism's timely tips!!!
If you ever go into the country or a place with high grass, be sure to wear high socks so that a little bug won't decide you look like a Meal on Heels. If you know you've been around ticks, check the back of your neck, near the hairline. That's their favorite place. For animals, it's their tender nose and tummy.
If you do happen to find a tick, the best thing to use is tweezers. DO NOT attempt to use nail polish, nail polish remover, lit matches, or any other kind of substance. It'll be sure to make the process faster, but it may also make the tick release substances you wouldn't like to be in your body.
Take the tweezers, and pull straight out. Gently, but firmly. Do not move the tweezers around or jerk, because that might cause the head to stay in and, well, you don't want that, right?
If you or another human is bitten by a tick and the head is still in there, it wouldn't hurt to get checked by a profession to get that thing outta there.
And check for the next couple of days or weeks for there to be a red bump where the bite was and for a ring around it, like a target sign. That may indicate Lyme disease. Other symptoms are dizziness, fatigue, ect.
*music ends*
So we got the tick out just fine, and Belle is recovering nicely. She's just normal, actually... *grins*
~*~
Tomorrow I'm going back to horse riding along with violin. I'm a teensy nervous, actually. About the horses. Violins can't stomp on your toes. :D
The black horse that I rode that week (thanks for all your your awesome suggestions!!! Top two at the moment are Luna and Eclipse) trotted and I freaked out. I think the saddle was too big for me or something, because I was SO scared that I was about to fall off. It backed me into a needle tree, and I almost got scratched in the eye. There were scratched all over my fingers, face, and a long one on my neck, but nothing bad at all. Just surface scratches.
Horses are expensive. Perhaps not the horses themselves, but the equipment sure is!
If I'm really going through with this, and I pray that I do, I need to get a saddle. It will possibly cost me a two hundred dollars. A plus is that I've suddenly had a jump in income due to babysitting my new sister, Lil' Sis. It will take several years to get there, but it's a start. I think I'll have to start finding some odd jobs at our house.
The owner of the horses showed me this little hoof-cleaning tool. It worked for its purpose, and it wasn't THAT fancy. It cost him 25 bucks. Wow.
What about feed, housing, and grooming supplies?
*sigh* A bit discouraged now, but I seriously want to own my horse one day.
But have I got one aspect of it down!!! Cleaning up after them!
Last week's session was mostly cleaning out a mare's pen. She's about to have a baby! It wasn't too bad. At first I freaked out whenever I got stuff on my jeans or shoes, but it honestly wasn't bad.
Come to think of it, the smell didn't kill me either. It was peaceful out there. The trees around the pen gave me shade, and the leaves rustling gave a calming effect. It was hot, but it felt good doing some work. Honestly.
June Bug
Ah, it's June, and O-fficially summer break for little me. Yeah, I know what ya'll must be thinking... "How many times have the word 'summer' come up in your posts, Prism?"
Well, a lot.
I've referred to it in terms of school and weather, but this time it is definitely school.
Everything is done. From Bible and Logic to swimming. From Trignometry and Latin to sunny days outside.
*grins*
Have I got a major case of the June bug. You won't believe how many times I've gone outside this past week, either to jump on our trampoline with Lil' Sis and Artista! (Two younger sisters) Sure, there's always the possibility that I'm too old and might break its poor old springs, but it's not happened yet, so I'ma gonna keep doing it.
But one thing is for sure, I'm way to old for playground set thingies.
Yesterday I took Lil' Sis to our neighborhood playground because she has been itching to for a long time, and she's been well-behaved. We don't have swing set or slide set at our house, so I thought we'd go so she's be good and ready for her nap.
We headed there, and she played around for a while, climbing up and down. But she wouldn't go down the big slide!
She kept on saying, "Bow! Bow!" I didn't understand, but she was pointing towards the slide, so I climbed on up, thinking there was a bug or something. The stairs were fine, but then came the tunnel. A five-year old sized tunnel. Sure, I'm pretty "petite" and the shortest person in a group of people my age, but that thing was downright TINY. I got in just fine, but I couldn't fit through the other end of the tunnel.
Lil' Sis, of course, was eager to get to the other side so she helped push me out. I felt like Winnie the Pooh, stuck in Rabbit's hole. (Has anyone else had to read that story to younger siblings???) I didn't have to starve myself for a week or use butter to make me slick or anything, but it took a while for me to wriggle out of there.
After stretching and glaring at the tunnel, I still didn't know what she was so scared of... She started making whiny sounds when we pushed through, and was as stubborn as a cat being taken to a bath. I had to hold her and go down the slide with her to get down there. She was making worried sounds the whole way down.
That's the first and last time I'm going to attempt that. For sure!
As for school being out, that doesn't mean I'm lazing around. I mean, one can only be a couch potato for so long, and I got pretty bored of it on Monday. Twas THAT fast...
I've been reading a lot more and writing. Thing is, I'm editing on the LAST chapter of my fantasy story, and I've got an idea for this story that involves kidnapping, movie stars, and robot dogs that are pretty much all-purpose. May sound too over the top, but I'm going to try to go after it, and see what I can do.
But I still have to study for the PSAT and ACT tests, but that's not too much, compared to how many courses I took this year. It only takes two hours or so a week.
Cool blue pool, HERE I COME!!! (Well, me and an inner tube. Have I ever mentioned I can't swim???)
Yep, a serious case of the June Bug.
Randomness Friday
It's my 128th post! Can you believe it???? And... my blogoversary is in 32 days! My first! It's hard to believe I've only been doing this thing for less than a year. It's been amazing!
~~
I cannot WAIT for summer. Warm weather, sunny days... And no school!
Okay, don't get me wrong. It's cool to learn new stuff every day, meet new peoples, and get new supplies. But it's also nice to have a break, even if it's two and a half months long. There are bright, sunny days ahead... and it's not even officially summer yet!
~~
I've posted a lot this month, have I not? *sighs* Sorry. I'll do better in June.
~~
I discovered this song the other day, and I L-O-V-E it! Here are the amazing lyrics...
"MORE BEAUTIFUL YOU"
Jonny Diaz
Little girl fourteen flipping through a magazine
Says she wants to look that way
But her hair isn’t straight her body isn’t fake
And she’s always felt overweight
Well little girl fourteen I wish that you could see
That beauty is within your heart
And you were made with such care your skin your body and your hair
Are perfect just the way they are
CHORUS:
There could never be a more beautiful you
Don’t buy the lies disguises and hoops they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do
So there could never be a more beautiful you
Little girl twenty-one the things that you’ve already done
Anything to get ahead
And you say you’ve got a man but he’s got another plan
Only wants what you will do instead
Well little girl twenty-one you never thought that this would come
You starve yourself to play the part
But I can promise you there’s a man whose love is true
And he’ll treat you like the jewel you are
So turn around you’re not too far
To back away be who you are
To change your path go another way
It’s not too late you can be saved
If you feel depressed with past regrets
The shameful nights hope to forget
Can disappear they can all be washed away
By the one who’s strong can right your wrongs
Can rid your fears dry all your tears
And change the way you look at this big world
He will take your dark distorted view
And with His light He will show you truth
And again you’ll see through the eyes of a little girl
Whatcha think?
Randomness Friday!
Guilty as charged.
Someone *cough* me! *cough* has not posted on her blog for a whole, entire week! (Pardon the redundancy)
Many apologies! I hope to get more posts the coming week.
So, since I've missed a week, I have lots to tell!!!
~~~

School is ending! I have no word to describe the emotion! The last week has been a week of exams, tests, quizzes, and essays, so I had almost no time for anything but school and studying! But something I'm happy to say is that my fear made the tests seem like mountains, when they were really little bumps in the road. Isn't that funny?

~~~
Tomorrow I'ma going horse riding! Yep! For real, and AT LAST! I cannot wait! My dad finally called the man who goes to my church and set up a time. Of course, I need to work to earn it, but I think it's worth it. Several people think that I'll lose my love of horse once I need to clean up after them, but I think I'll make it.
We'll see tomorrow, and I'll be sure to blog about it on Monday!
~~
Lil' Sis is doing great. You would've thought that she has lived with us forever, except the tiny issue of her speaking another language. She's learning more and more English every day, though!
~~
Does anyone know how to put videos on an iPod? I just got a used one, and it's 3rd generation. The iTunes Store isn't working on my computer for some reason, but everything else is fine. I want to find some music videos and see how good the video quality is...
~~
GREEN an' PURPLE ROCK!
Wow... That was really random.
~~
Tae Kwon Do has been going well lately. Nothing too extreme, so it's all good. My next test will be for the 2nd degree black belt, and, depending on how much I work, I'll test this year... Sometime. The hard this is writing an essay and making up my own variations on self-defense techniques.
It's just like school! Auuuuugh!
~~
Writing is also going well. I'm working on editing TC, and a lot of your constructive comments are helping a lot. New ideas are just flooding my mind every day! Interesting, but most of them are inspired by songs. "Fearless" by Building429. "Beautiful Tonight" Krystal Meyers. "Here With Me" MercyMe. "Ignition" TobyMac. Those are just a few that have helped me develop some of the characters.
~~
I haven't read any new books lately, which is sad. I'm hoping to discover some more at my library. (It rocks. They have Christian fiction!) Or just buy some. Anyone have any book suggestions?
~~
Well, See ya'll Monday!
Randomness Friday!
Okay, peoplez! School is winding down for the year, and I only have ONE WEEK left! How about you? It's been a great school year, but I'm glad about summer break. One sad thing is, I won't have the same joy of Friday! Every day of summer is like a weekend! One thing on my mind now is the EOI tests. You may know it in other terms, but basically, it's the final exam. Gotta look forward to that!
The weird thing is, I spend all school year looking forward to summer break, but when it comes around, I sooooo miss school!
Freebies...who doesn't love them? Especially free music? Well, I've had a lot of fun recently searching up cool Christian artists who are giving away some tracks. All of these sites are safe. I've downloaded three of them myself, and the last one I had already bought.
The following info was attained from the Air1 Music Blog
...
Fireflight is giving free download of their hit "Unbreakable" and Thousand Foot Crutch is giving away their song "Bring Me To Life"
Everyday Sunday is letting people download their song, "Best Night Of Our Lives", at no cost!
Lanae' Hale is letting people download her hit, "Back and Forth" This song is my favorite right now, and I had bought it before the free download was available, but it was so worth it. I highly recommend this song!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know who you really want to hear about...
Lil' Sis!
She's doing great and really adjusting with us. She absolutely loves jumping on our old trampoline, watching "Dora the Explorer", and singing the first line of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". She pronounces it as "Pinkle, Pinkle, little 'tar lei!" which is absolutely cute.
We took her to Sunday School two weeks ago, and she acted as if she'd been going there all her life! A little shy when you first meet her, but she warms up to people soon.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Did anyone watch the Kentucky Derby? It's a HUGE horse race for 3 yr. old horses, as far as I know. It was televised, so I plopped down on the couch and watched in amazement.
A horse named "Mine that Bird" won! Interesting name, huh?
Randomness Friday
Ahhh, Random Friday! My favorite day of the week for so many reasons!
Especially this Friday!!!
The weather is so amazing, the grass is beginning to reawaken, little animals and other creatures seem to suddenly reappear, baby animals galore, and blossoming trees! There always an earthy aroma. Not quite humid, but close, and much more pleasant. I can feel the soft petals, the sticky grass, and the cool, refreshing water. The sun decides to stay out longer and stop withholding its life-giving warmth. I can just feel the rays caressing my skin, making it tingle.
Ahhhhhh....
I just love spring!
So we were driving on one of the roads nearby us. (We live about 3 or 5 minutes away from the city) And I saw these adorable baby calves! They were so small and gorgeous! You see, there are several farms around our house, with plenty of horses, cows, and even a donkey or two! So you can probably tell I just go crazy whenever I see an animal other than a cat, dog, or fish since I love farm animals.
Really!
I mean, every Sunday on the way to church I see horses.
My first reaction?
"HORSIES!!!!!!"
My second reaction?
"THEY ARE SO PRETTY!"
How mature, huh?
Also, that's my same reaction every time. We've probably gone that way more than a thousand times. Probably many more times than that.
I keep telling myself, that sure horses are cool and all, but they CAN be dangerous and cleanup can sometimes be REALLY unpleasant. I've really encountered the dangerous part last year, and I hope that it never happens again, but I have never had to do any cleanup. Namely, mucking out the horse stalls.
But, y'know what? I think I still love them.
Prism is ashamed of herself. Though she hasn't abandoned her blog, she has put it lower on her priorities list this week. Why? School, sicknesses, and sleepiness. Okay, not really the third one, but I needed another "s"!
I'm also cutting down on posting for now because the BOOKINATOR ( bookworm4god), and I are shooting for getting to our hundreth post together. It'll be a very special post. We're still figuring out all of the details, though. And if you are about to reach 100? Comment on this post and we can all reach 100 together! This is actually post 99 for me...
But do not fear. Book reviews, hot topics, our long awaited mascot, and more and yet to come this coming week. So don't be alarmed if I have 2+ posts per day after reaching 100! *cough* hurry, bookie! *cough*
I've read some pretty good books lately! I just love going to the library. The quiet shelves lined with books- what a glorious sight! I am so grateful to my local library for carrying for carrying so many good books. Not many libraries have Christian books, and I am so privileged.
Some books that I have read recently are:
The Wormling Series by Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry
Phantom Stallion Wild Horse Island #10 Faraway Filly by Terri Farley
Phantom Stallion #1 Wild One also by Terri Farley
The Door Within Series by Wayne Thomas Batson
Isle of Fire also by Wayne Thomas Batson
Do you like Christian Music? I have two awesome stations for you! I've been listening to them both for years, but only recently have I had the opportunity to listen online.
The stations are:
K-LOVE
and
AIR1
They vary slightly. K-Love is more targeted for the family, and Air1 is more alternative. They are sister stations, and both are great stations to listen to that stream online. You can even see if they play on the radio in your area! There's a lot of things on the site such as weather and news.
A great resource all in all! The morning shows are great, appropriate and are great ways to start a day off with a big bang!
I prefer to listen to Air1 because I'm more into the music that they play. They tend to play music from arists like Disciple, Superchick, Krystal Meyers, and Pillar.
The other members of my family love listening to KLOVE. They play more of MercyMe, Chris Tomlin, Matthew Redman, and Bebo Norman.
And, as you can imagine, we always have a friendly fight over which station we should listen to...=D
So, you think Prism is in love with new and crazy words that she either makes up or finds? Well, she just found a pretty interesting article online with words such as
Batrachomyomachy - Making a mountain out of a molehill.
Folderol - Nonsense.
Formication - The sense of ants crawling on your skin.
Gobemouche - A highly gullible person.
The words above are just four off of the 100 funniest words in English.
Yes! It's GoMC's favorite day of the week! Sorta....
I am very glad at the moment for my cold is gone, but very annoyed at my head for giving me a headache. Maybe I should start eating healthier and exercising more, so my body doesn't try to get revenge on me...
It doesn't help at all that Valentine's Day is tomorrow, and I just got a lot of chocolate from a church party...
Yes, I'm a total chocoholic...
Of course, staring at the computer screen for about three hours now probably didn't help my head...
But I was doing quizzes for my online classes...
Blame it on that, I suppose *grins*
√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√
About my promise to reveal my mascot, I'm sorry but it will have to wait for next week. I didn't have the time to take a picture of it for the blog, most probably since we don't have an batteries that work at the moment.
Yes, I've gotten desperate. I took out every AA battery that I could find in our house and put them in one by one.
And the result?
The screen switched on, only to say, "Batteries exhausted!" and switched off.
After running around the house for several minutes looking for a battery, I was the one who was exhausted. I just know those batteries could have held out. I mean, doesn't it take power to display the "Batteries exhausted!" message???
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
*points above* Don't those look like horse hoofprints? To me, everything relates to horses nowadays. I have been told that I cannot ride horses, for now.
Remember that wild ride I had last year?
Well, reflecting on what happened that day, my parents have decided that horse riding is just too dangerous from me because clumsy me might get myself thrown off and get a brain injury or break my fool neck.
Well, they worded it a much nicer way...
They have decided to wait until we get back from India to see if I'm worthy of being an equestrian.
I do know the risks and dangers of horses, but there are benefits, yeah? A sense of freedom! The patience and endurance required? It's an education experience, right???
I'll just have to wait....
▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐▐
Another strange thing...I was informed that I talk in my sleep the other day...
Of course, I'm not sure if the person who said it wasn't dreaming...
But if it's true? I may have to start getting duct tape for me mouth...
*blinks* I can't believe it. Sleeptalk? Me?
Randomness...
This is going to be a really random post....
Why?
Because I'm bored and don't really have something special to blog about at the moment. *grins*
Y'know what? From now on, Friday will be known on GoMC's blog as "Randomness Day." Feel free to post appropriate random things as comments on my random posts!
This should be fun......
*evil laugh* MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! *coughs* Hehe, sorry....A little bit hyper today....
So yesterday I was sort of sad because a special silver cross necklace that I had received a few years ago had become tarnished. It went from a pretty, shiny silver to a dull bronze-ish color. In fact, it looked a little bit rusted. Anyways, I didn't have a clue as to how to fix it, and I asked my mother.
She said to use toothpaste.
WHAT????
Yep. Toothpaste. I went into the bathroom and got out the tooth of gunky stuff. I started rubbing and scrubbing it in, and sure enough, it brightened!
I am happy to say that my necklace is as good as new!!!
Do you have any tarnished items? There are two things that you must be sure that this little chemistry activity works properly.
1. The item to be cleaned MUST be silver
2. The toothpaste MUST be white.
Very interesting, huh?
Here's another one. Have a penny that's not quite shiny? Get lemon juice or a lemon and rub it in the penny. It should be looking like new!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
So in violin I moved up so now I'm learning new songs. I take two classes. One is for solo violin. It's just a private lesson where my teacher teaches me songs that I can play by myself for performances and stuff. (though I KNOW I'm in no way ready for that kind of stuff!) I also take an strings orchestra class, and that's really fun at the moment. I just love the way that the sounds can blend so harmoniously together! The deep rumble of the basses and cellos and the beautiful notes from the violin and violas that can be both cheery and haunting at the same time-It's just so beautiful! When I'm playing I feel so small! I'm just one musician in a whole array. Yet, a small mistake can be picked out by the trained ear of someone such as the conductor. It's truly amazing!
When people ask me about the violin and piano and which one I like more, I really cannot answer. They are both different and alike in some ways, and there are good and bad things about them. One thing is that a piano doesn't need to be tuned, but a violin does. And what a pain it is! The tuning pegs on my violin never stay when I try to tune it! A plus about the violin is that it can be transported easily. Sure, a keyboard can be carried around, but it usually doesn't have all the keys of a piano...
♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣
Here's another thing I've learned recently. Did you wonder how I got the symbols like the ace above and the hearts? On most computers, press "Alt" and then press some numbers on the number keypad. Release the "Alt" button, and the symbols shoulder appear. It even works for multiple numbers! Hold the "Alt" down and press some number. Release the "Alt".
2008 was great, but 2009 is...is...
Is what? I mean, I remember from last year that people were saying things like "2007 was heaven, but 2008 is going to be great!" or something like that. Doesn't 2009 deserve to come in with style too?
WARNING: THIS IS REALLY, REALLY RANDOM!!!
Now with all of the formalities out of the way, the only things I could think of were:
2008 was great, but 2009 is gonna rhyme! (Well, the "2008 is great" part rhymed, so there's not much point. Plus, how could a year rhyme? *shakes head*)
2008 was great, but 2009 is gonna be a lime! (Uhhhh, does this mean 2009 is going to be sour?)
2008 was great, but 2009 is gonna be a dime! (*blinks* What?)
2008 was great, but 2009 is going to be...going to be...sublime? (Uhhhh.....nope. Didn't rhyme!)
2008 was great, but 2009 is going to be...MINE! (MWAHAHAHA! *coughs* Nu-uh)
2008 was great, but 2009 is going to be divine! (Uh, I'm not sure)
Alright, I'm all out of ideas! Does anyone else have an idea?
It's so hard to believe that a new year is upon us! *screams and panics*
Well, I have a lot planned for 2009 including more book reviews, a monthly fiction article, and a monthly article about hot topics. But I will take this day to reminisce on all of the amazing things that have happened to me this great year.
1. I started this blog and became GoMC!!!! Awesomeness, yeah? Next June will be my first anniversary! *sniffs sentimentally* Can you believe it? I've been asked about this blog's title, A Girl of Many Colors. several times. Where'd it come from? Several theories include Joseph's coat of many colors and the horse of a different color (from the Wizard of Oz which I hadn't seen until this year). To tell ya'll the truth, I just randomly thought of it one day, and it stuck!
2. I joined the Dragons in Our Midst by Bryan Davis forum and became DoT! (Daughter of Thigocia) And yes, the whole "Dot" thing was planned. It was either Daughter of Thigocia or Daughter of Makaidos. DoM didn't sound as cool and DoT, so I became DoT! If you are on the forum, or are going to join, feel free to stop by and say hi!!!
3. I got a little sister!!! Though we won't meet her until next year, I feel like I'm already hers!
4. I got 100,000 words in my book! (Part one of a four book series) Though I am not completely sure when I started (Bad record keeping skills) I am 90% sure I started the book I have now in this year. (There were about 5 rough ideas until the final one showed through! Again, my bad record keeping skills kicked in and I threw most of the rough drafts away)
5. I got to ride a horse for real for the first time this year at a church picnic! And, if ya'll remember my post, it was REALLY a real ride for my sister and I! Thanks so much to the Phantom Stallion series (which I will be introducing to you in the near future) my mind flashed to one of the book's scenes and I hung on instead of jumping of the galloping horse. Thanks so much to the people at the church picnic who were fast thinkers and immediately started praying since they could do nothing else to stop the horse. And thanks so much to God for protecting my sister when she was thrown off of the horse and myself! God's amazing, and he is SO real!
Remember that one post when I said I'd be riding a horse at the one person's place who owned the horse at the picnic? Well, it didn't exactly work out due to bad weather. Hopefully, as soon as it gets warmer in the spring, I'll mount up.
6. I had a big birthday this year!
7. I got a black belt in Tae Kwon Do this year with a struggle involving an evil energy drink. Again, blogged on it if you want to read about my interesting encounter with (Du Du Dun!) The Blue Demon!
8. I got baptized by my dad this year!
9. I started exploring the world of writing for real this year, and I definitely DON'T regret it!
10. I've learned more about the computer than I ever did before! Tech savvy, I guess you could call it!
So, what amazing things happened to YOU (Yes, YOU!) in 2008?
God Bless,
(P.S. Like my new siggie???)
