Interview with Author Melanie Dickerson!

Welcome, one and all, to Day Three of Healer's Apprentice Week! The Healer's Apprentice is an awesome book written by author Melanie Dickerson. It is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, but it is incorporated with originality and faith. The Healer's Apprentice is a new release from Zondervan publishers.

Now, without further ado, the interview!
~*~

Prism: Welcome to A Girl of Many Colors! To start off our interview, please tell us a little about yourself.
Melanie Dickerson: Hi, Prism! Thanks so much for having me and featuring my book on your blog! I am a wife and mother of two girls, and I love to write historical romance. I live in north Alabama where it's hot and humid and very, very lush and green, since we've had tons of rain this summer. Once upon a time I was a graduate of The University of Alabama, then a special education teacher, and then a missionary for a year in Ukraine.

Prism: That sounds terrific! Have your travels and other life experiences contributed to your writing? If so, how?
Melanie Dickerson: Actually, I was in Hildesheim, Germany for six weeks while I was still in college, and the town inspired me with its wonderful medieval history and architecture. The Marktplatz in Hildesheim is the model I used for the Marktplatz (Town Square) in The Healer's Apprentice, and it is the setting for several scenes in the book. The town dates back to the 1100's and the buildings are authentically medieval. You can see the Marktplatz at this website: http://www.panorama-cities.net/hildesheim/market_place_5c.html  Truly inspiring, isn't it?

Prism: Definitely! I've always wanted to visit Europe- it has so much history! It's great that you were able to use Markplatz for inspiration for The Healer's Apprentice. So, have you always wanted to be an author?
Melanie Dickerson: Pretty much, except when I was six I wanted to be a ballerina. But doesn't everyone?
I loved writing stories in middle school and high school and I would pass around my stories, written in notebooks, to my friends and they would read them in class. I wrote two novels while in high school, but then I realized how hard it was to get published and when I started college I quit writing for the next fifteen years! But God gave me back my dream and my love of writing about seven years ago, and I can't imagine stopping any time soon.

Prism: That's awesome! So, why retell the fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty? What inspired you to create the story of Rose in The Healer's Apprentice?
Melanie Dickerson: I have always loved fairy tales. I think it's because I was a born romantic and no other children's stories were about romance!
But as I got older, I would read fairy tales and wish there was more to the story.
Several years ago, when my daughters were very young, they were watching the Disney movie version of Sleeping Beauty. I happened to think that the prince's actions didn't seem very plausible. Would a firstborn son, a prince, really turn his back on his family's and his subjects' expectations, break his vow to his betrothed, to marry a peasant girl he barely knew? I started wondering what the story would be like if the prince found himself falling in love with a poor girl--to his horror--when he was duty bound to marry someone else. And what if she was an honorable, worthy girl but was insecure, inept, and very aware of her low social status?
And the story took off from there.

Prism: That is truly brilliant. I really enjoy reading fairy tale retellings. There always seems to be more depth to the characters and setting! Is there a character in The Healer's Apprentice that you relate to or like the most?
Melanie:  I relate to Rose, the heroine, very much. I relate to her feelings of insecurity, knowing that people are judging her by her social status--or lack thereof. And I relate to Rose's belief that she's not good at her job, feeling clumsy and inept. I also relate to her best friend Hildy's over-romanticism, her head-in-the-clouds mentality. I've always had kind of a split personality--Rose's practicality and Hildy's romantic airheadedness. :-)

Prism: You probably get this question a lot as an author, but what would be your advice to teen authors who dream of being published one day?
Melanie:  Keep writing and don't give up! It takes most people a long time to get published, so be persistent.
Secondly, be teachable. Learn all you can about the craft of writing by reading books on writing, articles, and blogs.
Thirdly, write as much as you can. Write short stories, poetry, novels, whatever you enjoy writing, and just keep writing. The more you write the better you'll become. Besides, it will give you opportunities to apply all you're learning from the books, articles, and blog on writing.
Lastly, after you start submitting your work to publishers and agents, look at rejections as just another necessary step to getting published. Whatever you do, don't let a rejection devastate you. It's okay to be disappointed but you have to keep writing and submitting. A rejection is your "red badge of courage" so be proud of those rejections!

Prism: That's great advice- I'm sure many will appreciate it. Let's move on to some fun questions about you. What was a favorite book of yours as a child or teen?
Melanie: I loved so many books. I remember one of the first books I read and really LOVED was The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. I loved the adventure and excitement, and I related so much to that little mouse! I read so many of the classics and would get lists of "classic literature" and check them off one by one as I read them. I loved Ivanhoe, Old Yeller, Heidi, Little Women, The Three Musketeers, Anne of Green Gables, and when I got older I loved romances like Jane Eyre, and my all-time favorite, Pride and Prejudice. I read all of Jane Austen's books, and I continue to re-read them from time to time.

Prism: If you could go back in time and witness one event in history- what would it be?
Melanie:  Hmmm. It would be something wonderful to experience the parting of the Red Sea. No, even better, the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem the week before he was crucified. I would have loved to have been there and seen the children praising Jesus and all the people excited about welcoming him. On the other hand, the people turned on him just a few days later, so that might also be sad.
I'd have loved to see Jesus, and to see him healing people, the blind and the deaf and the lame. That would be awesome.

Prism: That's great! I have to agree with your choice- biblical history is something that I would have been honored to witness. Do you have a favorite/life Bible verse?
Melanie: I've had different ones at different times in my life. One that I quote to myself a lot is 2 Timothy 1:7. "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline." I have to tell myself that when I get scared or feel intimidated. I also like Ephesians 5:1&2. "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." It reminds me to "live a life of love." And another favorite is 1 Peter 5:7. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

Prism: Truly awesome verses to live by. What would you do if you were given $10,000 with the condition that you had to spend it on someone other than yourself or your immediate family?
Melanie: I was a missionary to Ukraine, and I know first hand how blessed we are in America. Just buying shoes for orphans or making sure hospitals have the medicines they need are the kinds of things I would do with the $10,000. Haiti is in desperate need, and there are many other countries that would also benefit from that amount of money spent on necessities.

Prism: Now the final question- what are your plans for your future books?
Melanie: I have another medieval YA romance, this one based on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. I have been working on revisions for it, and I'm hoping my publisher is going to decide to publish it as well, maybe within the next year. I may write more medieval YA fairy tale retellings in the future. I also have a series that is set in 1880's Alabama that I hope my agent will find a publisher for in the very near future! The first book is titled Magnolia Summer.

Prism: Thank you so much for the honor of interviewing you! It has been a pleasure, and I'm sure many readers are eager to read the The Healer's Apprentice.

Melanie: Thanks so much for having me on your blog! It's been a pleasure. And I have a few questions that I'd love you and your readers to weigh in on. Have you ever read a fairy tale retelling, and if so, what did you think about it? What about historicals? Do you like books set in the medieval period? Let's hear your favorite type of book!

Prism: Well, you've heard her, folks. What are your opinions?

Interview: Mahina!

Today I have the privilege of interviewing one awesome gal- Mahina. I mean, she's from Hawaii originally, is homeschooled, and has a blog called Walk In Truth! What could be better?

Stop by, say hi, follow, just go! =)

Oh, but first, the interview!!!

~*~

Prism: What do you post about most on your blog?
Mahina: Christian music! I love Christian music a lot, especially CHH (Christian Hip Hop). I post about songs, lyrics to songs, artists I like or discover, music videos, and other music-related things.

Prism: Favorite childhood memory?
Mahina: At the house we lived at back in Hawaii, there was a big pile of rocks I would climb. I called it my “secret place”, and would hide out there for hours reading or playing with toys. One time I even discovered old newspapers I took back and showed to my parents. I think that also helped to make me the history buff I am today.

Prism: Something you absolutely hate to do?
Mahina: Clean! I really hate to clean. But it is still something necessary to do, so I have to get it done.

Prism: What's something interesting about you?
Mahina: I’m a dog trainer. Being an animal lover, I absolutely enjoy this job. Every week I go with a neighbor and her sweet dog to an agility training place. I have to run the dog through a course of tunnels, hoops, jumps, and other obstacles. It is so much fun to do!

Prism: English or mathematics?
Mahina: English. Math is definitely not one of my strong subjects. It is also the subject I least like. English is a bit easier for me.

P: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would that be?
M: France. It’s such a lovely place. I am a Francophile, so that would be a dream come true to practice my French, eat the food, meet the people, see the sights, and just enjoy the French culture.

P: Favorite color?
M: I’d say pink. I’m very much of a girly girl, so I really like pink.

P: Hobbies?
M: Studying theology, dog training, reading, learning history, cooking and baking, listening to music, singing, Hawaiian, getting into the outdoors, finding out more ways to be green or frugal, and blogging and tweeting.

P: What does the title of your blog, Walk In Truth, mean to you?
M: To me it means to walk in the truths of the Scriptures-to learn and follow the truths presented in the Bible. It actually just came to me one night when I was sitting in my room studying 3 John.

P: Dogs or cats?
M: Dogs! Cats are fun too, but a little independent for me.

P: Thanks so very much, Mahina!!!

Interview: Emii!

This week I have the honor to interview the owner of a blog I have followed for quite some time- Emii! Emii is the blogkeeper of Girlz 4 God, which I highly recommend checking out!

What are you waiting for? Go check it out!

Oh, but after reading the interview, you remember. ;)

~*~
Prism: What would you say is your favorite food?
Emii: This question stumps me all the time...I'm going to say

Prism: Haha, good asnwer! Have you ever laughed so hard that you couldn't stop? Why?
Emii: YES. On school camp last year, me and one of my friends, Kayley, were sitting on her bed -- laughing. I don't know what about, but we were laughing our heads off. Almost literally. Nothing was funny. It was just funny.

Prism: What is your favorite/ life verse?
Emii: Psalm 62:8 -- "Trust in him at all times, O People. Pour out your hearts to him, for God is your refuge." As silly as it may look, it hangs on my wall, all by itself, and instead of "O People" I wrote "Emily". (I used to have posters, but I got sick of looking at Justin Bieber and Nick J and everyone all the time;))

Prism: Buffet or sit-down dinner?
Emii: Buffet.

Prism: Favorite color?
Emii: Purple & lime green!:)

P: Hey, same here! :) What do you post about the most on your blog?
E: I post about a lot of things -- stuff that's happening in my life, book reviews, music, "Lessons in Life" (Lessons about God, the Bible and how we live), mini-interviews (Interviews with authors and other people) and some other things.:)

P: Any pets?
E: Yupp -- a huge, fat, fluffy cat I call Jimmy-Jay!!

P: What is the coolest place you have ever visited?
E: Coolest place...probably Wine Glass Bay, a beach in Tasmania. The most beautiful beach I've ever seen, even if we did have to go on the longest walk ever to see it!:)

P: Wow, that is pretty incredible. When did you first decide to start blogging?
E: In grade 6 (Two years ago) in computer class, we had to start a blog. I love it more than anyone in the class, and started Girlz 4 God in January last year.

P: Favorite Christian movie?
E: Hmm... I can't think of any from the top of my head...The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe {The new version}.

P: Thank you so much, Emii!
E: Thanks for interviewing me, Prism!:))

Randomness Friday: Prism Interviews Herself...

(Thanks Libby!)

PRISM: Welcome everyone to this very... unique Randomness Friday. You see, I'm going to interview myself. Let's hope it's not disastrous.

PRISM: Get on with it, already. I don't got all day.

PRISM: Okay, Prism, how are you?

PRISM: Uh, I'm okay, I guess.

PRISM: Just...okay?

PRISM: *squirms* Yeah...

PRISM: Uh-huh... *squints* You sure about that?

PRISM: OF COURSE I AM!!! *pants* Now, please continue with the interview.

PRISM: Okay, let's start with question numero uno. Favorite color?

PRISM: Easy. Purple. Oh, and green, and blue, and yellow... Then there's black and white and...

PRISM: Okay, then! Next question. Last book you read?

PRISM: Always Watching by Brandilyn and Amberly Collins. Oh, it was so good. Suspenseful, intriguing, enthralling... You see, it's about-

PRISM: Please, Prism. Simple question, simple answer.

PRISM: Oops, sorry. *smiles* But it is a good book.

PRISM: I know. So, what have you been up to?

PRISM: Looking at scholarships, applying for scholarships, getting headaches over scholarships, crying over lost scholarships, wishing I won certain scholarships, and planning for future scholarships.

PRISM: So... scholarships?

PRISM: Yup. Pretty much.

PRISM: How do you feel about college?

PRISM: NO! DON'T SAY THE "C" WORD! In all honesty, it scares me like anything! But, *deep breath* God's in control and I'm working hard. We'll see where He leads me.

PRISM: Good attitude. Keep it up.

PRISM: I'm doing my best.

PRISM: So, what are you doing right now?

PRISM: Well, I'm interviewing myself. I'm also listening to TobyMac (LOVE HIS MUSIC!!!), trying not to watch the movie my sister's watching, and wishing I had some watermelon.

PRISM: Watermelon?

PRISM: Yeah, it's my love in life. But it can't just be any watermelon. The good kind is super crunchy with a sweet flavor, but it can't be too sweet. In fact, I'll be right back. I'm going to go get some.

PRISM: Nope.

PRISM: What? WHY?!

PRISM: You only get it once you finish this.

PRISM: Are you blackmailing me?

PRISM: No. Because, technically, you can't blackmail yourself.

PRISM: True. So any other questions?

PRISM: Yeah. Who was the last person who made you smile?

PRISM: Another easy one. The kids at my Tae Kwon Do class. They get distracted so easily and lose interest fast, but they are the sweetest children EVER.

PRISM: Tae Kwon Do. You like it?

PRISM: Yeah, though I could fool you sometimes. It's a love-hate relationship, but it pays the bills.

PRISM: You don't pay any bills. Your awesome parents do.

PRISM: Well, it pays for the needs of Prism. Happy?

PRISM: No. I think you meant "wants of Prism".

PRISM: *sigh* Fine. Is this an interrogation or what?

PRISM: No, because you can't interrogate yourself.

PRISM: But you can interview yourself?

PRISM: Next question! How's your author life?

PRISM: Ha! It's nonexistent. I haven't written in a long while, and I've been racking my brain for more ideas. I'm laying off the book idea for now, and I'm concentrating on short stories. The whole scholarship thing again.

PRISM: Sorry.

PRISM: *sigh* I know. I just hope I'll get some ideas soon.

PRISM: So, if you had a good voice, who would you sound like?

PRISM: You mean, who I lip sync the most? There's a lot of people. Some days I wish I sounded like Joy Williams, others the BarlowGirl sisters, some Audrey Assad, others the lead singer of Superchick... You get the idea.

PRISM: You really wish you could sing, huh?

PRISM: You bet I do! I'd give almost anything for the vocal capacity to sing MercyMe's songs. That lead singer, he got some pipes!

PRISM: You poor soul.

PRISM: We can't all be amazing singers. Or, singers. Period.

PRISM: Well, I guess I've dragged this interview long enough.

PRISM: Can I have my watermelon now?

PRISM: Not Yet. We must bid our guests goodbye.

PRISM: See ya later, folks.

PRISM: Thanks for reading!

Interview: Becca!

This week our featured blogger is Becca, blogkeeper of chocolate+puppies+books+b(r)others=BECCA'S LIFE
Becca Leslie is an awesome gal of faith who has had more patience with me than what I deserve. I actually forgot about her interview, and Becca was gracious enough to gently remind me. So, thank you, Becca!
~*~
Now, to the interview, all!

Prism: What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
Becca: Ooh, hard to say- I've done plenty of crazy things! =) I'd have to say that my dancing is probably the craziest thing about me. Which is why I never dance in public. At all. Never. Period.

Prism: What do you consider to be your talents/hobbies?
Becca: Everybody tells me that I'm a great writer. My math teacher was probably the most enthusiastic. I'm pretty sure that she thought that I was the next Rick Riordan or something! But seriously, I L-O-V-E to write. Seeing a freshly sharpened pencil and a blank Staples notebook makes my heart beat faster, ya know? I'm currently writing a twist on the nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb" for my little brothers. Mary's a secret agent, the lamb is actually a ferret with a bunch of cotton balls super-glued to it's fur, and- oops! My secrets are revealed! Sorry, I can't say much more about it anyway, it's nowhere near finished! As an after-thought, I realize that my only other hobby besides making up random words that don't mean anything is singing. I've been in a choir since I was like five. That's pretty long. I L-O-V-E to sing... here I go. I'm ranting again. *sigh* Anywho, my hobbies and talents are these: writing, singing, and making-up-random-words. =)

Prism: If you could be any animal, what would you be? Why?
Becca: Another toughie! I'd probably like to be a bird. They're so wild and free! Plus they can go wherever they want! I guess that ties into "free", huh? Anywho, I'd probably be a cardinal. Born and bred in St. Louis. And they're so bright and cool-looking! Yep, definitely a cardinal.

Prism: What is your favorite color?
Becca: Blue all the way!! *rock-out sign* Clear and bright skies, flowers, plus, it's just about the only color that looks good on me.

Prism: What are your plans this summer?
Becca: To chill with my peeps (or friends, if you use English instead of Becklish), attempt to get a tan without getting sunburned, play with my dog, and go to the beach with my church youth group for RYM (Reformed Youth Ministry).

Prism: How does your faith influence who you are as a person/blogger?
Becca: I think about what I'm writing a lot more on the blog. Also, I try to include things in my writing. Right now, I'm working on a post about my favorite Bible verse and what it means to me. I like to tell people about my church activities, and enjoy doing it. As a person in general, my faith reminds me not to judge people on first sight and other things that I tend to do a lot. It helps me sooo much on an everyday basis!

P: What was your favorite childhood game?
B: I was very imaginative as a child (I still am!), so my favorite game was make-believe. I would pretend to be a dog (of all things!!), and have people scratch me behind the ears or rub my belly. Ah, the good days. As in, "it's GOOD that they're over"!! =)

P: Are you an organized person?
B: Occasionally. (I'm so straight-forward, right?) Like I live without picking up anything in my room for a couple days, but come Saturday, I'll lock myself in and not come out 'til it's spotless. I guess I'm just that kind of person!

P: Thank you so, so much, Becca!

Interview: Maggie!

Today I have the honor of interviewing a wonderful gal of faith, Maggie! Maggie is the blogkeeper of a newer blog, Bliss, you may know her for her former blog, Behind the Teen Scene. Now, she's blissfully blogging and has consented to an interview with little ol' me!
~*~

LINK:

Well? Aren't you going to go visit? Huh? HUH? ;)

Make sure you stop by Bliss to tell Maggie hi! After reading the interview, of course.
~*~

If you are interested in being interviewed by me on AGoMC be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post to read the specifics
~*~

Now, for the interview!

Prism: Why did you first decide to enter the blogging world?
Maggie: Well, I had a blog called Behind the Teen Scene, but I closed it in late January. So I just recently (June 1st) started a new blog because I missed being able to comment on blogs, make new blogging friends, write posts, and all of the other fun things that come with blogging. I just really missed it, so I am so glad to be back and blogging and plan to be here in the blogging world to stay!

Prism: Who is the coolest person you've ever met?
Maggie: Our former Exploring Languages teacher was probably the coolest person I have ever met. At the beginning of each class when she walked into the room all of us would eye her outfit, hair, accessories, and especially her shoes! She has traveled all around the world so she has lots of really cute clothes from other countries. She is a prime example of the fact that you can still have really cute outfits and be dressed modestly. She also loves the Lord with all of her heart and currently lives in the Demonican Republic (or the DR as she calls it) teaching English and telling others about Christ. She also loved photography so she had tons of pictures put up around her room that she has taken. She is definitely the coolest person I have ever met!

Prism: Any pets?
Maggie: Yes, I have a yellow lab named Gunney. He is probably one of the craziest dogs ever.

Prism: What are your favorite colors?
Maggie: My favorite color depends on the day, but it's usually between pink, purple, brown, and baby blue.

Prism: Describe your personality?
Maggie: I may seem shy at first, but once you get to know me I love talking. I am very outgoing at times, which has it's down side (like saying everything that comes to my mind) I love the Lord with all of my heart and strive to do everything for His honor.

Prism: What is your favorite type of candy?
Maggie: Basically anything chocolate. :) I also love Skittles and Starbucks.

Prism: Do you play any sports?
Maggie: Yes, I am a dancer and do several different kinds of dance.

Prism: Would you sky dive if you were given the opportunity to?
Maggie: My friends and I had this conversation and said that I would probably be the one who would come up with enough nerve to go up into the air plane, but they would have to push me out of the plane to get me to go. :)

Prism: What is your least favorite subject in school?
Maggie: My least favorite subject in school would have to be science.

Prism: What does your blog say about you?
Maggie: The name of my blog, Bliss, means happiness. I am one of those people who is usually always smiling and happy. So the name of my blog most definitely describes my personality.

Prism: Thanks a bunch, Maggie!

Interview: Laurea!

Today I get to feature an AWESOME blog and amazing blogkeeper, [Laurea]! [Laurea] is the blogger of Center Stage, and I recommend checking out her blog. It's really beautiful! Be sure to click on the button below to check it out, after the interview, that is! ;)

~*~
If you are interested in being interviewed by me on AGoMC or in interviewing me for your blog be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post to read the specifics
~*~
Now, the INTERVIEW! =)
Prism: What are your hobbies?
Laurea: My hobbies are, in no particular order: Blogging (what a surprise), playing on Photoshop, playing tennis, soccer, cooking, playing Guitar Hero (though not obsessively!), listening to music, going to plays, reading, shopping, getting decent grades, playing the flute, playing piano, hanging with friends, making random crafts, saving the planet, etc.

Prism: Why did you pick "Center Stage" as your blog's title?
Laurea: Actually, when my blog first began in October, the name was Random Boulevard. I thought at the time that it was going to just be a random, crazy blog about my life. In December I decided to make it more refined and less random. So I wanted my blog's title to suit me--a Broadway loving little computer geek. :)

Prism: What is your favorite animal?
Laurea: My favorite animals are definitely dogs, especially small dogs. I'm going to adopt dogs from the Humane Society when I'm older. I hope to get a degree in college in Law Enforcement so I can work at the Humane Society.

Prism: Do you have a favorite musical?
Laurea: Les Miserables is definitely my favorite musical. Do I use "definitely" too much? *shrugs* Anyway, The Phantom Of The Opera and Wicked are not close behind. Phantom's music and lyrics are so breathtaking, but I find the plot to be somewhat confusing at times. And Wicked was amazing. The plot takes place before the Wizard Of Oz and it explains the events and characters of the Wizard Of Oz in such a unique way.

Prism: What would you say is the main theme of your blog?
L: That's a toughie. My blog doesn't have one straightforward theme. Photography is a huge element of my blog. I also just like posting about things that I love (or don't love). And of course, Broadway's in there. Hense the musical layout (that I designed myself!).I guess one of the themes of my blog is just showing people who I really am.

P: Do you have any pets?
L: No, but I wish I did! I really want a hamster, or a cockapoo, or even a goldfish. I used to have guppies. They kept having baby guppies, so I had guppies constantly for about 4 years. Then, the last guppy, Vishiswaz, died. I've been trying to convince my parents to let me get a golddfish named Winfield. Too bad they think I'm joking. :D

P: Summer or winter?
L: Winter! I LOOOVE the cold. The clothes are cuter in summer, but I hate that hot sweaty feeling. A perfect day for me would be between 20 and 60 degrees. So I'm definitely (there's that word again!) a winter person. Plus hot chocolate tastes so much better in winter!

P: Who is your favorite author?
L: Hard question. I don't exactly have one. Erin Hunter was probably my favorite in 5th and 6th grade, but I honestly don't like the Warriors series much anymore. I love fiction/fantasy more than nonficion, so I'd probably say Scott Westerfeld or J.K. Rowling.

P: Roses or daisies?
L: Red roses! Daisies are cute and playful, like me, but I've always been a romantic person deep, deep, DEEP down. But not too over-the-top in love. :) There's even roses in my header. :)

P: What is/was your favorite subject in school?
L: My favorite subject in school is Latin. People usually give me weird looks when I tell them this. It really is easy if you review it a lot. And you have to review it A LOT. There's 30 different endings (that I know of right now) for nouns ALONE. So making mistakes is pretty easy. I love the fact that I can walk around the house and speak in rather choppy Latin sentences and no one will know what I'm saying. :D

P: Thank you, Laurea!
L: Thank you SO MUCH for doing this, Prism! I had a blast!

Interview: Rachel!

Today's featured blogkeeper is Rachel T. of Girlz of Faith!  Through the various posts in her blog, Rachel reminds girls that they aren't just girls, they're girls of faith! I often frequent her blog to read, and I recommend you do the same!

~*~
Please remember that I will not be conducting any more interviews until the month of May (which isn't too far away). Once May starts, I'll open it up for prospective interview-ees to e-mail me. Guys, girls, young, old, you're all welcome to join in. I may even request an interview from you.
~*~
Now, the highlight of this post!

Prism: Why did you decide to start blogging?
Rachel: Well, I was fully introduced to blogging when I was about...probably seven. (The blog I had was VERY minor.) But, by the time I turned ten, I found it slightly more difficult to have a good relationship with God. That's when I realized that I wasn't the only one who went through that. So I created Girlz of Faith to help girls, just like me, live for God.

Prism: Pink or blue?
Rachel: Pink. Hot pink, though. Not like, light pink or anything like that...

Prism: What do you post about the most on your blog?
Rachel: I'd probably say that I post more about what's going on with my life, but I'm starting to do some devotional posts.

Prism: How does being a Christian influence your life, even more your writing?
Rachel: Although I was saved when I was six, I can't remember life without Jesus. It doesn't really influence my life. it IS my life. When I write, I try to do it in a way that spreads a Godly message to people like me.

Prism: Where would you go for your dream vacation?
Rachel: Evansville, Indiana. It's a random place, but I think it's kinda cool. =)

Prism: If you could have any talent in the world, what would it be?
Rachel: Gymnastics. It looks so fun! But, it's difficult for me to do, so, yeah.

P: Snow or sun?
R: I love both!

P: What is/was your favorite subject in school?
R: Reading, because I'm currently getting to choose the books. =)

P: What is your favorite/life bible verse?
R: 2 Corinthians 4:6: For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness' made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the Glory of God in the face of Christ."

P: Describe yourself?
R: I write all the time...and I'm random. =P

P: Thank you so much, Rachel!

Interview: Shaynie!

Today I have the honor of interviewing an amazing person, Shaynie from The Book Blog! This amazing blog is filled with reviews of clean books for young adults to read and enjoy without having to worry about the negative elements popular in today's society! I highly recommend visiting her blog!
~*~

Quick note: I will not be accepting interviews until the month of May. For those of you who I have already promised an interview, will be on schedule, and I apologize for any late e-mails or inconvenience. I hope to have it on full swing during the summer, though. Perhaps a whole week of interviews? We shall see, but I thought I'd give you all an update.
~*~

Now, what we've all been waiting for, the interview!

Prism: How did you first get interested in blogging?
Shaynie: Well, my aunt started a blog last year or so, which inspired me to start a private family blog. And since I love books so much, why not have a book blog? I found very few book review blogs that cater to middle grade/YA fiction. Well, there are some, but they don't care about keeping the books clean. So I thought, why not start one myself?

Prism: Summer or winter? Why?
Shaynie: Summer, definitely! I hate cold weather, rain, and snow. I could live in San Diego or Florida where it's summer all year round! There's nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass, lightning bugs, and a warm summer evening...ahh!! There's nothing more inspiring.

Prism: Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Shaynie: Well, when I was young, I loved dogs. I still do like chihuahua's, but if I had my choice, I'd prefer a cat. They're so soft and cuddly. :D

Prism: What is your favorite type of book?
Shaynie: My favorite books are Holocaust fiction. I really love reading/learning about the Holocaust.

Prism: What is your favorite fiction book?
Shaynie: My favorite fiction book is Phoenix Rising by Karen Hesse. From the jacket: "Part love story, part coming of age, this is a tour de force by a gifted writer." I couldn't agree more.

P: How often do you post on your blog?
S: Usually about 5-6 days a week. I review a book right after I finish it, and I usually read at least one book a day. Posting regularly keeps regular readers. :)

P: If someone gave you one thousand dollars, what would you say to them?
S: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart, wonderful person who bestowed to me so much money. Could you please give me a ride to Target?"

P: How do you review books on your blog?
S: I go to the library and pick up books with my blog in mind (meaning I make sure they seem clean, etc.) then I read them and see from there if they're worthy to be reviewed or not. If they have a lot of language and/or romance, I don't review them.

P: What is your favorite color?
S: Hmm....that's a tough one. But I'd have to say red.

P: Music or sports?
S: Music, definitely. I don't play any music (except a couple chords my brother taught me on the guitar) but I love to listen to music.

P: Thank you so much for your time, Shaynie!
S: I hope you enjoy my blog! I love reading and love books, so this is just an outlet. I also love feedback. Don't lurk; tell me what you think! I am also open to suggestions for book reviews and just feedback in general. Thanks, Prism, for featuring me here!

Interview: Dreamstar!

Today I have the privilege of interviewing Dreamstar, owner of Wings of a Horse!
~*~
If you are interested in being interviewed by me on AGoMC or in interviewing me for your blog be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post to read the specifics
*~*
Now, without further ado, here is the interview!

Prism: What is your favorite game?
Dreamstar: Huggermugger, I must admit. It's great fun once you get the hang of it! It has a funny name, I know, but my parents played it when they got married! I have only played it once, and it is very difficult, but very fun also! Huggermugger is like a trivia game, and there are questions I don't even know because I haven't encountered them yet!

Prism: If you were to pick the theme song of your life, what would it be?
Deamstar: A theme song of my life is super simple, my fave song "Wild Horses" by Natasha Bedingfield. Absolutely lovely, and it describes everything I would want to do! It seems like that song was written, for me!

Prism: What is your favorite part about your blog?
Dreamstar: My favourite part about my blog must be my followers and my design(background, ect.) My followers and their comments thrill me knowing that they like what I post. I try to do my best with my posts, but sometimes I don't get that many comments, so I just try to think of what my followers would like to read. I try to make my blog look attractive and beautiful with the designs. Because if a blog looks good, you may get more readers because then it looks more interesting. Of course I like everything about my blog, but comments and my followers make my day!

Prism: What's the funniest thing that ever happened to you?
Dreamstar: lol. The funniest thing that ever happened to me was just last Summer Break! me and my friend were at this horse camp, and it was the end of the day. We were waiting with these two other girls for our parents. We all had pop, because we could buy pop there. So were were laughing and all that. Then one of the girl's said something half funny right as I took a drink of pop, Coco-Cola. I laughed, and the pop came out my nose! The whole mouthful! It was so funny, cause all you saw was pop dripping out my nose, and a puddle in my hand. That must be one of the funniest moments in my life.

P: Do you play any instruments? If not, do you participate in any sports?
D: Hmm....well, I have absolutely one favourite sport. That would be horse-back riding. It's a thrill and an honour to be able to ride on those magnificent creatures. Horses are so majestic, and mostly free. Horses can never be held back, they have power, beauty and freedom. I go horse-back riding every Sunday, on a horse named Aladdin, the bets horse in the world to me. :)

P: What kind of horse is Aladdin?
D: Aladdin is a bay Thoroughbred Stallion. I'm not exactly sure if he is a Stallion still, but pretty sure! :) Thoroughbreds are mainly used in horse racing. Aladdin used to be a racer. he has a white spot on his leg because when he was racing, people inject stuff into the horses so they can't feel pain. It takes 10 injections to create a white spot, and Aladdin has a pretty big one. His FULL name is Prince Aladdin, but everyone calls him Aladdin. Aladdin isn't the nicest horse, but he's the perfect horse for me! He has a very big attitude. He hates other horses behind him. If we're doing a lesson(we sometimes go on trail rides), and he's leading the little group, he will stop and kick out at the other horse! Of course I am getting better at controlling him. I have been riding him for two full years this June or July! He is the *counts* fifth? horse I have ridden, and so far, my favourite. I get very emotional if my instructor ever suggests changing horses! She hasn't for about a year, but last summer, Aladdin was being a pain, and she wanted me to switch horses. I obviously said no. Aladdin is the best, and I hate seeing other people riding him. I could have not asked for a better horse. I wish he was mine! He's 20+ years old, but still going strongly. He's my boy, and I never want any other horse to be. :) I could talk about Aladdin for so long, but I won't. Way too long! :) One more thing: Aladdin's the best. :)

P: Favorite fiction book?
D: Ohhhh! VERY hard one...I have two absolute FAVOURITES! They are both beautiful. War Horse by Michael Morpurgo and A Dog's Life(the autobiography of a stray) by Ann M. Martin. I have read each book a ton of times. I could read them until the end of time. Both are great, and I would recommend them to anyone who loves animals, or a great story!

P: Would you ever want to go surfing?
D: Surfing...well the ocean scares me quite a bit now, so I think that would be a no! Surfing to me, sure, it seems fun, but I would never really want to try it. It seems really risky, and what if their is a Shark nearby!? lol. Sharks scare me greatly. I know there is a small risk o being attacked, but still! Also the waves, I hate being swept under by them. Being pulled away by the retreating water. It feels like you will never come back! So going on a large wave...don't think it's the right thing for me!

P: What is your favorite color?
D: My favourite colour is easy, BLUE. If you were ever to see me, I would most likely be wearing blue. :) That colour makes up most of my wardrobe, but I do have other colours that I wear, but mostly blue. Blue is the colour of the sky, and the sky is absolutely beautiful! It holds so many mysterious. Space is black, but the sky is blue. Weird? Isn't it? So ya, I think blue is a lovely colour and have for a long time. So it must be my favourite colour!

P: What do you post about the most on your blog?
D: I don't really post specific things of Wings of a Horse(WOAH), just sort of random posts each time! I try to post about my life a bit, but that fails miserably. :) I love writing, but for some reason when I try to think of what to post, I freeze up! it's like my brain bails on me, and leaves me to figure it out on my own! I really don't know what happens, but I just try to post about stuff as often as I can. I never seem to get good ideas, or make long posts, but I don't think that matters much. It's the thought that counts? Right? I'm glad my followers still keep up with me though!

Interview: Cornet Crazie!

Welcome to another week's interview with a blogger genius, Cornet Crazie! (Oh, and remember that there is only one "o" in Cornet... I made that mistake, but we learn from them, yes?)

Cornet Crazie is the blog owner of Treble Clef, and I totally recommend checking her awesomeful blog out!
~*~
If you are interested in being interviewed by me on AGoMC or in interviewing me for your blog be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post to read the specifics
*~*
Alrightey, I'll not keep you a minute longer... I present to you, Cornet Crazie!!!

Prism: How did you come up with your username?
Cornet Crazie: Well, I'm pretty much the world's biggest band geek, and my first band instrument was the cornet. {That's part of the trumpet family, but it's much more compact with the same tube length, and it's conical and not cylindrical making it have a mellower sound} Anyway, that's what got me into the best thing that's happened to me: band. For the second part of my name, I wanted to show people my band obsessiveness and also into the hyper side of my world. But, I really didn't like how 'crazy' looked, and anyway it was an adjective. So I simply changed it to make it much more unique, and a noun. Plus I love the letter 'z'.

Prism: Cats or dogs?
Cornet Crazie: Totally cats. Even though I've got a 4+ allergy (highest rating) to both of them, I love cats and they love me. Dogs on the other hand, seem to hate me.

Prism: What is your favorite style of music?
CC: I really like everything but my favorite to listen to is new age. I absolutely adore music by Owl City and Enya. When I'm playing one of my many instruments however, it's jazz all the way. I love the syncopation, the different styles, the solos, competitions and of course, the high notes. The other kind I really love to play on my trumpet is those really slow, soft, emotional songs in concert band. They're so pretty, and I love showing people that a trumpet does not just play loud obnoxious parts but can really almost sing sweetly. Seriously, I can make my band director cry with that kind of playing.

Prism: What is the purpose of your blog?
CC: Well, I have two blogs, Anecdote and Treble Clef. Anecdote is a place to share my writings, mainly short stories and poems. Treble Clef is my main blog where I mainly write about my life, hold some contests, and for me it's a great creative outlet. I love making blog designs, and connecting with other bloggers.

P: How long have you been blogging?
CC: Well, I had a warrior cats blog, SunClan, with Olive Tree back in 2008 I believe. That blog is long gone, and I started Treble Clef in January of 2009, and I plan to continue blogging there for a very long time!

P: Ice cream or cake?
CC: That's such a hard choice, it really depends on how I'm feeling that day!

P: What is your favorite subject in school?
CC: You've probably figured that one out already! Band. I have the most amazing band director; she's the best teacher I've ever had. In band my main instrument is my professional grade Yamaha Xeno silver trumpet, and then my Conn Director cornet for the mellow tunes, but other instruments that I play spattered around in concert band and training jazz band are trombone, clarinet, piano, bass, mallets and a tiny bit of drum set.

P: What is your favorite color?
CC: Green. I just love how it is springy and fresh. Plus it's one of the only colors I'll wear. (I mostly wear green, blue, aqua, purple, some gray and black cause yellow, red and orange look awful on me.)

P: CDs or MP3 players?
CC: Hard choice again. It really depends on where I am. (Whether I'm on the couch at home reading a good book, or skiing down the terrain park and double black diamonds for instance)

P: If you could go anywhere in the world for a week, where would you go?
CC: There are so many places! I'd love to go out to the Rockies for a week to ski, or go to somewhere like Greece.

P: Thanks a bunch for allowing me to interview you, Cornet Crazie!!!

Now, what we've all been waiting for...Abigail Prudence...Revealed!!!

Prism: If you had to describe yourself with one word, what word would you pick?
Abigail: fun, spontaneous, skilled, girly, adventurous? It's hard with only one word.

Prism: What is your favorite part of your blog?
Abigail: definitely my playlist, I love the music there, I listen to it all the time.

Prism: Sports or music?
Abigail: Tennis is one of my only sports, I am the 4th generation of tennis players in my family line. Horse riding is my favorite, I hardly ever get to ride, but when I do I feel wonderful! As far as music goes, anything soft and relaxing I really enjoy. I started learning to play the harp last year, it is going slowly, but I am really enjoying it. I am not into the contemporary Christian music at all, I like the hymns and country songs about life.

Prism: What is your favorite animal?
Abigail: It's a toss up between the jaguar or the horse, both are beautiful animals!

Prism: What is/was the best thing that happened to you?
Abigail: Giving my heart to my Father, we have a wonderful relationship.

Prism: Have you ever been in another country?
Abigail: No, but I would love to visit many places! The top 3 being, Australia, Egypt and Ireland

P: What is your favorite/life Bible verse?
A: Proverbs 31:30 Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a women that feareth the LORD; she shall be praised.

P: Who is your favorite fiction author?
A: Jane Austen

P: What is your favorite movie?
A: Pride and Prejudice

Now, what we've all been waiting for... THE INTERVIEW!!! :)

Prism: What is the one word you probably say the most?
Buttercup: hmm...let’s see...probably either “okay” or “right.” But, I really don’t know.

Prism: Do you like singing, acting, or both?
Buttercup: Singing, definitely! Not saying I’m good at it though...hehe

Prism: Can you speak any foreign languages? If not, what language would you love to speak?
Buttercup: I don’t, unfortunately, unless English counts as a foreign language. I want to learn French and sign language, though.

Prism: What is the purpose of your blog?
Buttercup: To build up other believers, encourage them, tell unbelievers about Christ, and well, to have fun!

Prism: Chocolate or vanilla?
Buttercup: Depends on what it is...Ice-cream - vanilla, cake - chocolate, etc. lol.

Prism: Would your friends in real like say you're the same in the blogging world?
Buttercup: Probably.

Prism: What's your favorite color?
Buttercup: Ooh. I don’t have one, I have a three...I like pink, blue, and purple!

Prism: Do you have any pets?
Buttercup: Yep! Four fish, and an adorable 8 week old puppy named Maggie!

Thanks so much, Buttercup! Ya'll give this awesome girl a hand... That is, after you visit her blog and tell her how cool it is... Come on, who doesn't love comments?

Interview: Hannah!

Today I am privileged to interview Hannah from Aspire! This girl is running a blog so special in so many ways. The layout is PHENOMENAL, and I mean it. The layout and graphics are genius, but what's even more gorgeous is the writing that takes place there and the girl behind it all.

Now, the INTERVIEW!

PRISM: When did you first start blogging?
Hannah: When I was eleven, on Homeschoolblogger.com, with the username of Hannah11. I switched to blogger a little over a year ago, and now blog at http://manyrandommusings.blogspot.com

PRISM: If your school (or homeschool group) put together a play, would you be the main star or behind the scenes?
Hannah: I'd probably do both, truth tell. It would depend--I would probably be in charge, and whether or not I'd star too...well, that's the question. ;)

PRISM: What's the biggest thing you want visitors to your blog to know?
Hannah: That I am CELEBRATING the beauty that God has placed in our world in any way I can. I aspire to that beauty. Hence the name. ;)

P: Drama or comedy?
H: Oohh...a bit of both, perhaps. ;)

P: Favorite/Life Bible verse?
H: Romans 12:2. My verse. ESV version, preferably.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

P: What do you post about the most on your blog?
H: It really depends--I like to write some posts that are deeper; sometimes I'll post about my life; I put pictures up at times; just a variation of one overall THEME--that of aspiring in my life.

P: What are some exciting places you've been?
H: Ha, honestly, I've never traveled out of the country. I passed through 12 states when my family drove to CA though. The Grand Canyon was pretty cool. But if I had to say exciting, it would be in the trip that I my grandparents took my sister (Chloe) and I on this summer. Nine whole days with them, going down to Colorado, and passing through/staying in several states. It was amazing--the time spent with them and my aunt (who had a soccer tournament for her college team down in Colorado) was truly a blessing.

P: Where do you think you'll be in 5-10 years?
H: Married with kids. A graphic designer still, and definitely a photographer--professional, I don't know. Maybe a book published. Maybe. I'll have to see. Definitely praising God though. I can see that clearly.

P: Favorite fiction book?
H: I can honestly not name one. However, I'll give you a list of my favorite authors instead of that. K? ;) (in no order) J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, L. M. Montgomery, Ted Dekker, Frank Beddor, Lois Lowry, Shannon Hale, Madeleine L'Engle, Christopher Paolini, Jennifer L. Holme, and a few more that I can't remember at the top of my head...^^

P: Favorite color?
H: It used to be green, but I've been feeling the blue phase since I was about eleven. ;)

P: Thank you so much, Hannah!
