GoMC has contacts!

No, GoMC doesn't have contacts in the sense that GoMC has people. Well, she does...But just in the terms of-Oh, never mind.

GoMC has the contacts that someone puts in their eyes!

And oh how long she has waited for them!!!

On Wednesday, my dad and I went to the optometrist. He was just having a checkup and I was having an appointment for contacts. I was all nervous and excited.

Anyway, the doctor measured how bad my eyes had gone (They went down 2 steps). It's wasn't necessarily a good or bad thing in general, but it was pretty good considering last time I went for my yearly checkup I went down 6 huge steps. It was pretty scary. They were even considering the possibility that I had glaucoma, a really bad eye disease that nothing can be done about it and it can eventually lead to blindness.

Fortunately, after a stressful and frightening trip to an eye doctor in India, we found out that I had nothing to fear in the sense of glaucoma.
The eye doctor trip in India was truly traumatic at the time. I got so scared when they put these drops in my eyes. It dilated my pupils so the bright lights really hurt. Next they took me to a room to the glaucoma doctor. He put more drops in my eyes that numbed them. Then he took a blue light and stuck them on my eyeball. That was it.
I broke down and cried like a baby. A big, pathetic baby.
After all of that they told me I didn't have glaucoma.
Oh, and after that? I was taken to a dark room where they had a machine that puffed a quick gust of air onto my eyes.
Sounds fun, huh?
Oh, and did I mention that the dilating drops were still working? It was in the middle of the day when we finally went outside. Closing my eyes, I had to cling onto my dad's arm while he lead me around. The sun hurt so much!
Oops. Getting off topic.
Okay, so we still don't quite know what happened that one time. Six steps down is a big deal. My eyes are even worse than my dad's!

Fast forward to January 28th. It's about 3:30 PM. The doctor got the contacts after measuring my eyes, and told me how to put the in, how to clean them, and how to store them. I was so excited about being able to run around without having to worry about my glasses bouncing around on my face, getting smudged, or falling off!!!

And then the time came. They were going in!

But my brain had other ideas.

My eye muscles struggled against it. Eventually, I learned to relax. But alas! Though one contact was in, the other was still to come.
My willpower struggled, but it eventually got in too.

And boy, did I love it when my contacts were on! It almost felt as if nothing was there. I mean, I knew it was in there and even now as I wear them, I know they're in there. But they didn't hurt at all!

So my dad had his checkup and I explored my new eyes. Completely free of glasses! YESSS! I looked around pressed my nose where the glasses used to have been for good vision. I rolled my eyes around, closed them, and crossed my eyes all while mentally sticking my tongue out at my glasses.
In short, I was like a kid in a candy store.

So after my dad's checkup was over, the doctor took me to another room with contacts boxes lining the walls, several chairs, posters about eyes and contacts, and a mirror. He said that I would be "practicing" with my contacts. He plunked the mirror in front of me and told me how to take the contacts off. I tried and tried, but my fear of touching my eyes got in the way. I struggled to take the contact out of my right eye, but it just resulted in a very tired and bloodshot eye.
I didn't get to take it off by the end of the appointment.

But the optometrist said that it was cool; the government had approved for the contacts to be worn for a month straight without taking them out. Of course, that wasn't recommended; there was always the risk of infection with contacts.

I felt really tired when we got home. My dad told me to take a nap, so I just flung myself onto my bed, turned on my music player, and closed my eyes.

It sort of helped.

Fifteen minutes later, I washed my hands (always important before doing anything with contacts or eyes) and was in front of the mirror trying to take the things off. Of course, everyone wanted to watch me take them off, but I felt very strange. Like a microbe under a microscope.
So they, really, she *cough* little sister *cough* left after a very imperative command.
And I did it!

Of course my poor eyes were VERY exhausted, so put them in their case.
But clumsy and un-smart me did a very stupid thing. A very stupid thing that the optometrist had warned about many, many times during my appointment.

I left both of the cases open. Why is that such a bad thing?

You see both of my eyes are different. They don't require the same power. So that means the two contacts are different. And I accidentally dropped my left contact in with my right one.

Big Uh-oh.

I hollered for everyone to stay away and not move the case while I rushed to my bedroom to retrieve my glasses.

My dad said, "*GoMC*! Weren't you paying any attention when he was talking?"

Of course I had...But if you know me, I can really goof things up sometimes.

This time was no exception.

I came back knowing that my left contact would be on top of the right. As quickly as I could, I snatched it outta there. But I'm not exactly sure. Is it the right one?

I think it is...Maybe...

Oh, dear.

God Bless,

P.S. Will post soon about "Glasses VS. Contact Lenses"! Feel free to ask questions about them. I had a lot of questions before I got contacts, but didn't have the chance to speak with anyone, so if you have any questions just comment! You can even do it anonymously.

Snow! And then, not snow....

Well, the strangest thing happened! Yesterday, we got snow! (But that wasn't what was weird)
So there were slight flurries, and I knew that it wouldn't be enough to play in for sure and all.
But it was the first snow of the year! First snow of 2009! Awesomeness, yeah? Anyways, it was snowing and everything, and then the sun comes out! You'd think that the snow would dissipate and all, but it fell down harder! More snow! It looked so magical with the sun out and little crystal sparklies drifting to the ground! It kept going on like that for about an hour.
So why didn't GoMC take a picature?
1. She was lazy and freezing! (Well, that's two reasons, huh?)
2. She didn't know where the camera was!

Oh, well. Too bad!
So yesterday was so COLD, but today is so WARM! It really went from a 32F to a 70F, and I am LOVING it!

Anyways, has anyone gone to Winter Jam? It was one of the highlights for me of 2008, and I'm going to try to go again! So last year I went with a church group with my BFF and her youth group. It was honestly a blast! The music was amazing! I actually got to see PureNRG in person! But I didn't go up and say "hi" because I didn't exactly know who they were and everything. (Now I do!!!)
So the funny thing was that I said, "You know what would be awesome? If Tobymac came!"
And this year? HE IS GONNA BE THERE! *squeals*
Most of ya'll know that my favorite artists of all time are Tobymac, Barlowgirl, and Steven Curtis Chapman.
And I've seen one in concert already! I will be SOOOOO happy if I get to go!
The best thing of all? It's like only 10 dollars!!!

This is what I got in an email.

What else is going on in my life?

Well, I submitted the application for the school I'm hoping to go to next year. Please pray that I get selected for an interview! I am sort of nervous!

Annnnnd my story! My book is 109,000 words long, and it's starting to build towards the climax, the final conflict. Cool, huh? I have a lot more to write, though, and then I have to edit and try to find a publisher. Daunting, yes, but I hope to take it one baby step at a time!

Blog spotlight for the month!

This will be a new addition to my blog every month! I will be talking about blogs that I have found an liked. This month's spotlight shines on "'Tween You And Me"! It's a blog run by Mrs. Nancy Rue, the author of the Lily series, the Sophie series, and the Lucy novels! She is an amazing writer who really gets down on the level of middle school girls. I remember rushing home from the library every Saturday with an armful of her books! Even now, my sister and I love reading her books! So check it out! *grins*

My plans for the rest of the month include doing two new book reviews, so be on the lookout for new stuff!

God Bless,

2008 was great, but 2009 is...is...

Is what? I mean, I remember from last year that people were saying things like "2007 was heaven, but 2008 is going to be great!" or something like that. Doesn't 2009 deserve to come in with style too?

WARNING: THIS IS REALLY, REALLY RANDOM!!!

Now with all of the formalities out of the way, the only things I could think of were:

2008 was great, but 2009 is gonna rhyme! (Well, the "2008 is great" part rhymed, so there's not much point. Plus, how could a year rhyme? *shakes head*)

2008 was great, but 2009 is gonna be a lime! (Uhhhh, does this mean 2009 is going to be sour?)

2008 was great, but 2009 is gonna be a dime! (*blinks* What?)

2008 was great, but 2009 is going to be...going to be...sublime? (Uhhhh.....nope. Didn't rhyme!)

2008 was great, but 2009 is going to be...MINE! (MWAHAHAHA! *coughs* Nu-uh)

2008 was great, but 2009 is going to be divine! (Uh, I'm not sure)

Alright, I'm all out of ideas! Does anyone else have an idea?

It's so hard to believe that a new year is upon us! *screams and panics*
Well, I have a lot planned for 2009 including more book reviews, a monthly fiction article, and a monthly article about hot topics. But I will take this day to reminisce on all of the amazing things that have happened to me this great year.

1. I started this blog and became GoMC!!!! Awesomeness, yeah? Next June will be my first anniversary! *sniffs sentimentally* Can you believe it? I've been asked about this blog's title, A Girl of Many Colors. several times. Where'd it come from? Several theories include Joseph's coat of many colors and the horse of a different color (from the Wizard of Oz which I hadn't seen until this year). To tell ya'll the truth, I just randomly thought of it one day, and it stuck!

2. I joined the Dragons in Our Midst by Bryan Davis forum and became DoT! (Daughter of Thigocia) And yes, the whole "Dot" thing was planned. It was either Daughter of Thigocia or Daughter of Makaidos. DoM didn't sound as cool and DoT, so I became DoT! If you are on the forum, or are going to join, feel free to stop by and say hi!!!

3. I got a little sister!!! Though we won't meet her until next year, I feel like I'm already hers!

4. I got 100,000 words in my book! (Part one of a four book series) Though I am not completely sure when I started (Bad record keeping skills) I am 90% sure I started the book I have now in this year. (There were about 5 rough ideas until the final one showed through! Again, my bad record keeping skills kicked in and I threw most of the rough drafts away)

5. I got to ride a horse for real for the first time this year at a church picnic! And, if ya'll remember my post, it was REALLY a real ride for my sister and I! Thanks so much to the Phantom Stallion series (which I will be introducing to you in the near future) my mind flashed to one of the book's scenes and I hung on instead of jumping of the galloping horse. Thanks so much to the people at the church picnic who were fast thinkers and immediately started praying since they could do nothing else to stop the horse. And thanks so much to God for protecting my sister when she was thrown off of the horse and myself! God's amazing, and he is SO real!
Remember that one post when I said I'd be riding a horse at the one person's place who owned the horse at the picnic? Well, it didn't exactly work out due to bad weather. Hopefully, as soon as it gets warmer in the spring, I'll mount up.

6. I had a big birthday this year!

7. I got a black belt in Tae Kwon Do this year with a struggle involving an evil energy drink. Again, blogged on it if you want to read about my interesting encounter with (Du Du Dun!) The Blue Demon!

8. I got baptized by my dad this year!

9. I started exploring the world of writing for real this year, and I definitely DON'T regret it!

10. I've learned more about the computer than I ever did before! Tech savvy, I guess you could call it!

So, what amazing things happened to YOU (Yes, YOU!) in 2008?

God Bless,

(P.S. Like my new siggie???)

Whew! Am I exhausted!

So yesterday was a pretty hectic day. Yesterday, I had six semester exams. (Yeah, kinda just before Christmas break. Gotta love that, huh?) So here I was with my pen flying over a lot of pages trying to get as much done before piano lessons! I finished my geometry and violin exams, and then I went to piano with my mom and sister. It went pretty well, and I added two new things to my schedule/calender. One, my sister and I are going to play seasonal (and some nonseasonal ;D) music at our local mall, and two, I'm going to have a group piano lesson on the 22nd! Now, I have school on that day so I'll have to get up really early to finish everything! Why do I have school during Christmas break, you ask? Well, it's because we'll have to go to India maybe sometime during the school year to get my adorable little sister and we don't want to be behind in school. I'm definitely okay with that. :D

After that, my teacher and my mom surprised my sister and I by saying that they're going to have lunch together. So my mom dropped us off at our home, and I went back to working on those pesky piles of paper. (Liked my alliteration???) After I finished that off, I made lunch. (Oodles of noodles!) I didn't exactly get around to making noodles for myself, but I did get some of the food my mom brought home. Lo mien noodles and sweet and sour chicken!

Anyways, back on subject. My mom brings up going to this local place's open house. The place is sort of like a community college, but not quite. It offers half a day of AP and pre-AP classes that a highschooler can take. There were two places like that. They taught different subjects and they had open houses on the same day, same time! I chose to go to the BioMedical academy, because I'm interested in the medial field. When we're on our way there, my dad tells me we're also going to pay a visit to the Engineering academy. So we rush into the BioMedical center, and I'm freezing, so we were led into a huge lecture hall type of thing. They gave a informative yet compact summary of what went on there, and then we hastily went on a tour of the place. It was amazing! Diagrams of things everywhere and a lot of cool technology. I even saw a cat that was going to be dissected. Surprisingly, I didn't get grossed out. I loved the tour and the campus!

Next, we hastily went to the Engineering place. (But we didn't speed, promise!) We got there and went on a tour. It was amazing, I have to admit. Amazing computer programs and the robots were something else. It was so cool, but a little bit intimidating. We spoke with several teachers and the counselor, who was really nice. Something that kind of freaked me out was that they were asking stuff like, "What type of engineer do you want to be?" or "What got you interested in engineering?" You see, I was prepared to answer those questions for the BioScience place, but not the engineering academy! I'm really not even too sure what I want to be when I'm older. I just know that I want it to be in the medical field, since I love learning how amazing God made the human body. One person there said that engineers are more likely to be picked to be accepted into my local medical college. That's what confused me. Is it true? I don't know. Hopefully I'll find out!

So now I have to choose where I'm going to go, the BioScience campus or the Engineering academy. I really like the BioScience a lot, but if engineering will help me get into med school...?
Please pray for me and my parents and we make our decision. The application for joining the academy should be given as soon as possible, so we're sort of rushed.

Blogger Break.....Maybe

Salvete Amici! Translated in Latin: Hello friends!

Life's been pretty busy for me for a while now, so I may take a little blogging break for about a week or two. I may post now and then, but most likely I'll not be on for a while. So if ya don't hear from me, don't freak out. :D

Anyways, nine more days until the poll ends! Since many would like to hear more about me and about my opinion of books, here goes!

About Me:

Well, right now I'm writing a book that's a Christian fantasy. Not finalized on the title yet, but its 197 pages and around 83,000 words when I last checked. And I hope to make it to around 250-350 pages. Whew! A loooong way to go!

Tae Kwon Do is going well. I haven't been much this month due to the horse adventure I had plus I had a flu shot (those always get me sore and slightly sick)

Right now in piano I just finished The prelude of the Prelude and Fugue 17 by J.S. Bach. It was quite challenging and I'm looking forward to finishing the whole piece with the Fugue! I'm also preparing for a competition soon for a Beethoven Sonata.

Violin is rolling along pretty well. I tried taking off the tapes and playing, but that did not work well. I think I have a ways to go before I can do that!

It's been pretty COLD where I live so my fingers have gone into hibernation.

Yeah, ya heard me right.

Hibernation of fingers: A state in which one's fingers freeze to accompany the cold weather, thus becoming stiff, numb, and COLD!

In other words, a pianist's worst nightmare.

If only I could move to Florida or California.....

Or the Sahara Desert.......

Anyways, I've been reading and rereading several books, which I will try to do reviews on when I come back

The Riverboat Adventure Series by Lois Walfrid Johnson (Rereading, and loving it!)

Bloodstone Chronicles by Bill Myers (Rereading and soaking it up! A wonderful allegory!)

I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Jonathan Harris (Reading)

A Song by Me and Other Oddities!

I have been writing a LOT lately including stories and songs. Here's one I wrote.

Through it All

My God is with me in the good or bad
He is there when I'm mad or sad
When I'm crying, He's there to lift me up
Through it all, through it all, God won't let me fall.

Chorus:
Through it all, my God is with me!
Through it all, His mercies I see
Through it all, I won't fear anything
Through it all, through it all, He'll never let me fall!

When I fight temptation He is there to guide me,
When I'm weak and weary, Oh, Jesus is my strength!
When I stray from righteousness, my Shepherd will direct me
Through it all, Oh through it all! (Chorus)

I will not fear anything that comes my way,
Because he's with me all every step I take
My Comfort, my Father, the One True God!
(Chorus)

Through it all my God will never leave me.
Yes, and through it all I know I am not small
Though just one in a crowd, He knows my name!
Every hair on my head,
Every thought I think,
And every word I say!
Through it all, through it all
My God won't let me fall.

So it's my first song and not exactly the best :/ Just thought I'd be crazy/random and post it! :D

So my friend Bookworm4God (link to her blog on my "People to See, Places to Go" list but ya'll probably know her since she's so popular) is going to Honduras for two weeks. She's leaving on Monday, August 7, 2008. (Yes, Bookiella, I am blogging on how much I miss you already)
If you read this before you go, ME MISSES YOU! ;) She's going to bring back cool picatures!

Anyway, time for my Sunday School funnies! For all who don't know, I volunteer every Sunday at a3&4 year olds class.

~One girl was playing "house" and she was the mother. The little girl who, oddly enough, was being the little girl was sick. So the mom said, "We need to go to the hostible!"

~One boy came over to the girls playing house and he was watching them.
"Wanna play?" a girl asked.
"Okay" replied he.
"You can be the grandma!" She said. The girls laughed because they understood the joke.
The poor little guy didn't get it so he just stood there and laughed along with the girls, "You are so funny!"

Anyway, that's what's been happening so far! :D
