Randomness Friday: The Sky Is Falling!

The world is ending tomorrow. This buzz all over media is somewhat... Oh, let's just say it's interesting. I like to stay out of the mainstream stuff, but this demanded my attention. It's just weird because the Bible says it in plain language:

But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 

Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. 

Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 

What I say to you, I say to everyone: "Watch!"

Over the years, many people have set dates about when God is coming back. Hey, even Christopher Columbus tried his hand at it. But no one knows! It saddens me when such a claim turns on a mob of mockers and scorners of the validity of the judgment and grace that will come from God.

Can the world end tomorrow? Yes, if God wills it! But does anyone know for certain? No way!!!

And if Jesus said, "nor the Son, but only the Father," who is man to claim that he knows? All of the calculations in the world and trying to find some kind of pattern in the Bible will never work.

I have nothing against the people who believe this idea- even the person who came up with it. I'm sure they are nice people, but this is totally wrong! The people who do not believe there is a God now find a point to scorn! Atheists are quoting the verses! Yet some people still claim to believe this theory and ignore (Oh, the irony...) the Bible! When we could be turning people to God, we are now causing them to perceive us as hypocrites, ignoring our own moral guide! How terrible is that?

As for me, I'll keep trusting that God will come get us when the time is right. He knows the date, and I'll just have faith and watch.

Okay, voices are unique. It's a scientific fact. There's a lot that goes into what makes your voice your voice. Bone structure, size of the vocal chords, anatomy of the mouth, orientation of the tongue and teeth... But I'm telling you, this new band called Cloverton sounds a lot like Third Day. And that is a compliment from me.

Randomness Friday: Never Say Never... Oops, I Just Did... Twice

Okay, okay, people. This is not going to be a Beiber rant or rave. I know there are many strong feelings about him, so I'm not going to dive into the fray. I just found the title of movie ironic... but that was likely the point.

Soooo....

Tiredness. It seems to love me as much as paper hates me...

I have gotten so many paper cuts in the past couple of days, I am not kidding you.

Paper. Hates. Prism.

The feeling is mutual... Except when there's something good on it.

Like books! Or a good grade! Or an acceptance letter into a program I spent hours applying to!

Okay, nevermind. God made trees. Trees and some other stuff God created make paper. Paper... is okay. (deep breath) Okay, it's very okay! :)

I've noticed I've been reading many, many books on my digital device. No, it's not because I've decided to abandon paper, but I seem to have more time to read books digitally. Many publishers also only offer review copies as electronic copies, too. Oh, and my library has an e-media program with e-books, and since I almost never have the time to go to the library anymore, so I go digital.

Ahhhh! Prism has joined the dark side!!!!

Okay, couldn't resist. Funny though, I actually have never seen Star Wars... 

Please, do not throw the rotten produce!

It's really not like betraying the book world. Yes, in ways it is more expensive, but I find myself reading books on my computer too. I can still highlight my favorite parts, keep bookmarks, and I don't have to carry heavy books with me!

Oh, and I don't have people asking me what the book is about!!!

Okay, that just has always annoyed me a teensy bit because I so get into the story. Interruptions that aren't from parents or super important totally frustrate me. I don't go ballistic or anything, but I just sigh, set aside my book and give the person a whole review of my book, because that's what I do.

What? Prism is like this in her real life?!?!?! 

Surprisingly, yes. The only difference between this and my real life is that I am more academic in real life. School is my life. Well, maybe 70% of the time, but I work a lot. I sort of like it too, but I know I never talk about it on here. But I'm pretty much like this with my closest friends. 

Maybe I'm cooler on here, I dunno.

I mean, I want to be a doctor... and I'm not so sure you'd appreciate me blabbering on about the differences between the types of leukocytes, right??? 

(By the way, leukocytes are white blood cells... Same thing. They're pretty tough little... things... (what do I say? dudes?! they're cells!) )

Randomness Friday: Hey, No More Books!!!!

Okay, just kidding! But, people, I am completely running out of space on my bookshelf! I've actually had to pick favorites (oh, the HORROR!) and hide away some books just to keep my shelves orderly... Okay, somewhat orderly.

I'm not particular about many things, but, dude, ruin my books and you'll unleash my wrath!

Again, just kidding. I do get pretty upset when, say, spaghetti sauce gets all over my favorite book or the cover is torn off (may it NEVER be!!!!) but I suffer inwardly... that is, most of the time.

But now I digress.

Any of you have solutions for my lack-of-space woes?

Should I buy a new bookshelf? 
Toss some of them into the banishment of perpetual closet-dom?
Move over some other stuff to make room?
Move to Siberia and carve myself a bookshelf out of stone?
Move to Siberia to ponder the reason why I feel it is necessary to even have more books?
Move to Siberia and feed my books to the tigers?
Quit thinking about Siberia and just deal with it?

I dunno.... I just don't like not having enough room.

*looks back at what she just wrote* Now, THAT, my friends was the weirdest thing ever...

Randomness Friday: No, not the LATEX!!!

Isn't it weird when you discover something new about yourself? Like when you suddenly find out that you have a knack for public speaking, or kids love you, or you're Superman?

I mean, wouldn't superheroes be a little weirded out when they find out that they're super????

Well, my recent discovery is definitely not as cool...

I'm allergic to latex. Isn't that the weirdest thing you've ever heard? That makes no sense to me. I have to wear special gloves now because I'm allergic. I just put latex gloves on and they itched like crazy, then I realized my hands were getting red and irritated.

Weirder things have happened, I suppose.

Do any of you have New Year Resolutions? Yes, I know I'm late, but if you have them, are you still keeping them?

My goal is to have a quiet time every day before I start school, which is pretty early. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to use a devotional or just read through and digest the Word. So far, I'm choosing Psalms and reading those. I'm pretty sure I'll have a real plan by the end of next week.

It's really hard to slow down, sometimes. I love being busy all the time, but then I just want to rest sometimes too. It seems like before I was always finding excuses not to sit, be still, and dive into the Bible.

I also hope to continue this blog. School is really challenging, so my posting frequency may seem odd sometimes, but I will definitely continue posting book reviews. I may lag with the "about me" posts and videos, but I absolutely love writing book reviews.

Isn't that weird? I mean, I always hated doing book reports in elementary school, but I absolutely love doing this.

By the way, in case you're wondering what the picture to the left is... It's the Bible that I have... :)

Randomness Friday: It's Been a While!

Wow... My last Randomness Friday was in... guess what?... October!!! So, yes, it's been a long while to be deprived of such randomness...

So the banner has gotta be bigger to make up for all of those days missed- duh! :P

and the NEW YEAR is in a few HOURS! Yippee!!!!!!

Okay. Granted, some of y'all are already celebrating the new year. Yay!

*puts philosopher thinking cap... hat... toga?...on* What is it about New Years that we enjoy so much? Perhaps it is the closing of one year with a big sense of finality, perhaps joyfully or sorrowfully, and being about to rejoice at the prospect of a wonderful new year full of work, fun, and prayer. (Well, unless Jesus comes back... Now, THAT would be a year to remember, huh?)

My plans for tonight, you ask? Well, I plan to curl up on my couch, pretend there's a warm fireplace by my side, and read through the books that I have (about half of the series) of the Phantom Stallion series by Terri Farley. It's been a while since I've read through all of my books, and I'm hoping I can read every single one tonight. I absolutely love the character of Jake in the series- he's one of my all-time favorite guy characters.

Oh, and I kinda owe my well-being to the series. Haha.

We'll see what else I do... Maybe catch a movie on TV if its good.

Speaking of movies, thanks so much for all of the comments on my review of Tron: Legacy and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader!

I plan to see Tangled tomorrow (I have never frequented the movie theater so much in my entire life!) with my sister and a friend. I believe, from all of the reviews I've read on your awesome blogs, that this will be an awesome, adorable movie. I'll do my best to review it this coming week.... in the new year!!!!

I absolutely love the horse from what I've seen from this movie. Rapunzel is a surprising change from the classic story- I like the idea of her using her hair and a pan to fight off enemies. And Flynn is probably one of the coolest guys in a Disney princess movie yet...

We'll see how it is tomorrow! YAY! So excited.

Randomness Friday: Listen UP!

I don't usually compare myself to animals, or in this case, bees, but I truly am as busy as a bee. I'm talking no fall break here with tons of test prep and homework a-plently.

But, you want to know the amazing thing?

God is showing himself so powerful and merciful in my life. It's incredible what He has done, and I'll never ever start doubting His power in my life, even if the results I get from tests, scholarship contests, or activity applications are not what I want.Who knows? It might just be what I need.

This year has been really amazing so far. I was a total mouse (there's another animal for you) for most of the time last year, but I'm really finding boldness and more friendliness as more time goes on.

Take two days ago. I was supposed to give a ten second speech in our class (because I'm the president. Who'd have guessed that, either?) about why we were having a party that day.

So I stand in front of the class and stare at the people in front of me talking, working on school, or already digging into the eats.

And I yell, "LISTEN UP, PEOPLE!"

Then gasp, "Whoa.... That was loud."

There were a few comments here and there like "You go, girl!", "There's a leader", "Okay...That was...loud. Really loud."

I never expected I'd experience this much growth in a year.

Thanks to God, school, and family, I hope there's a bright future out there for me. And I know I can accomplish my goals with lots of hard work and lots of grace from God.

Do you ever have trouble finding the right words to say? It can be serious or laughable, but I seriously have trouble saying the right things at the right time.

I don't really struggle with the use of "Um" and "Like" but I just have times when I blank out when it comes to what to say! It can be pretty annoying...

But do you know that when a friend's going through a hard time, you can just be there for them?

Just go sit with them for a while, and if you can't find the words to say to them find the words to say to Him.

Prayer works, folks.

Gianna Jessen does not quit. Giving up is not an option to her. Gianna has what she refers to as the "gift" of Cerebral Palsy. She weighed a mere 2 lbs at birth and the doctors said she would never be able to hold up her head, sit up, crawl or walk. She began to walk by the age of three years old with the help of leg braces and a walker.
Gianna doesn’t believe that her Cerebral Palsy takes away her life, but, rather, enriches it. . . she walks with a slight limp today and runs marathons. On April 30, 2005 she completed her first 26.2 mile marathon after running just over 7 hours and was presented with the coveted blank blank award! On April 23, 2006 she completed the London Marathon as well. She is now determined to run marathons all over the place, because she was never supposed to even walk!
Gianna understands the plight of orphans, being one herself. She was placed into the foster care system early on in life, eventually being taken into the loving home of a woman named Penny. Penny has been a mother to 56 foster children in her life. Gianna was later adopted by Penny's daughter, making Penny Gianna's grandmother. According to Gianna, Penny saved her life.
Gianna is a Christian. Her life was given to her by the grace of God. She shouldn't be walking, but more miraculous still; she should not even be alive. Gianna's biological mother was 17 when she had a saline abortion in her third trimester. Many Americans don’t realize it is legal to have an abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. After being burned alive for approximately 18 hours in the womb from the saline solution, Gianna was delivered alive in a Los Angeles County abortion clinic. Her medical records state, "born during saline abortion"...this is what caused her Cerebral Palsy.

Randomness Friday: Secret Agent Man

So... the chorus of this song has pretty much been in my head for the past week. Seriously. Ask my family, and they will tell you I have been belting out this song and driving them crazy. You can imagine how much more crazy it drove them when I found the music video! ;)

So, why?
Why have I had this little ol' song in my little ol' head?

1. I have been watching Sue Thomas F.B.Eye (yeah, that's intentional) for the past few weeks
2. I've read waaaaay too many mystery books lately that involve investigators and the like
3. Two secret service guys came to my Tae Kwon Do class.

Now, isn't that just plain weird? Not the things themselves, but that I've been seeing this stuff a TON?

Anyways, just thought it was cool.

So... horses.

I spent the past week rereading all of my old posts (that may account for why my post-ish abilities have not really worked this week)and I saw that my RF tradition was nothing other than writing about my equine adventure.

Hence, I now post about my horse adventures!

Last week I got to ride the horse the very fastest I have ever gone. I'm not sure if it was a gallop (in fact, I highly doubt it) but I know it was the fastest ever.
I also got to help build an electric fence to pen in an animal. To say in the least, I had so much fun. I learned, even though I didn't do the hard work (I just held the fence up when I was told to and I fetched supplies. It was a good day.

And this past Monday, I got to ride AGAIN and got to see horse races! So, awesomeness.

So many things have been happening in my life lately- I actually taught a full Tae Kwon Do class for a day with the people I usually learn along with. I got to do a little photo shoot for my school,and I was elected president of my school!

Like, WHOA! *laughs*

So this was my first "full" week of school. Really, it comes full blast next week, but it's nice to get used to it bit by bit.

So the other day I was talking to my mother about my nose. (I know, it sounds so weird)And my toddler sister ending up preaching to me! She's been in the USA for a year and a half now, and she's learned so much English in that short time. I was pretty shocked when she started "preaching" to me!

Me: My nose is crooked! It looks like I hurt it or broke it or something. Did I ever do something when I was little?

Mom: No, and your nose is not crooked.

Lil' Sis: *walks up to me, pointing at me*

Me: *stares down with amused expression*

Lil' Sis: *awed voice* Who make flower, and earth, and tree?

Me: You tell me, Lil' Sis.

Lil' Sis: *awed voice* God... He make you all face. He make nose!

Me: *looks at Mom in shock* My little sister just preached to me!

Mom: *laughs*

So, you can see, God can use anyone to tell you a message. Isn't that awesome?

So, as for the future of AGoMC posts, I'm thinking of doing more serious ones. Yes, fun posts are... well, fun. But it's good to get some substance in A Girl of Many Colors. I hope to start writing as soon as I get the chance to purchase a word processor (MS word) and get my thoughts more organized. It's a little difficult to get everything in order on the blogger form, though it is helpful.

Randomness Friday: Cow Head?!

Welcome one and all to Randomness Friday! This is my first RF post ever in AUGUST *2010* !!!!

Wahoooooo!

Wait.... why aren't you cheering with me?
Is it perhaps because August is the dreaded end-of-summer-as-far-as-school-goes? *knowing smile*

So, yes, I have already jumped on the wagon and begun my school. It isn't bad, to tell you the truth. This year I'm taking pretty basic classes at home and super duper advanced and accelerated courses at the technology center I go to in the afternoons. Granted, the technology center classes haven't started yet so I haven't begun the torture classes yet. But this week was good, very good. I think I'm going to learn a lot.

Believe it or not, in my history class we have just discussed the explorer Cabeza de Vaca, who discovered and explored southern Texas and parts of New Mexico and Arizona between the years 1528 and 1536. 

Sounds ordinary enough, right? But his name translated to Spanish means- guess what?

"Head of Cow" or Cow Head. 

Whoa. Interestingly enough, my textbook said nothing of his interesting name. With my previous Espanol clases I saw it right away. 
Can you imagine being called Cow Head these days? I would just die!

Bully: Hey, Cow Head.... Moo!
Prism (as Cow Head): That's the name. Don't wear it out. *poses like Elvis but epically fails*

Anyway, that tidbit of history struck me as interesting

Speaking of Spanish, you know where "Dora" from the beloved children's show came from? Explorador(a)!
I know, it's such a shock to mankind. Prism has finally found the meaning of life.

So for the past couple of days I've had this big sinking feeling. Like I'm forgetting something or there's something really sad in my life I'm forgetting. I have no clue, but it's bugging me like anything.

Anyone have any cool weekend plans?

I cannot believe summer is ending so fast! I mean, this weekend my family is going school shopping- which is our biggest shopping event of the year. Granted, we don't go far out with spending and unnecessary stuff, but it 's still fun!
Annnnnd! :) I get to go horseback riding!
I can't even begin to explain how free it makes me feel. An unexplainable joy- endless as the sky above us.
Way too cool.

But, I try to explain it like this:

Man + Dog = Friendship
Girl + Horse = Bliss
