Review of The Final Hour

The Final Hour by Andrew Klavan is the fourth and final book in The Homelanders teen action and adventure series. Charlie West is finally regaining his memory- all of it. But when his memory reveals an evil plot that will destroy millions of lives, Charlie must determine how much he is willing to sacrifice. Although he has always been on the "good guys" side, Charlie is in a cruel prison for murder. The terrorist group called the Homelanders is still after him, especially now that he's the only person outside of their group who knows the secret. He has to get out, even though no one will believe him. The final hour is upon him... will millions of innocent people die?

Nonstop action from the very first book.  You can see my reviews for the second and third books if you click on the links. As I've said in my reviews of past books, this series is definitely what I call a "guy read", but the author also caters to the gal readers. Charlie West is an outright comic book hero. He puts others before himself, he has a strong sense of patriotism, he can kick tail with his mad karate skills, yet he still says soft for his girl and parents. As the plot thickens in this book and all of the strange memory attacks Charlie has experienced suddenly begin to make sense, readers will be on the edge of their seats the whole time.

There's some violence in this book, but nothing I found too gory or objectionable. My plot element complaint is that the book gets really unbelievable towards the end. Charlie is just able to do things that normal high schoolers wouldn't be able to do. Granted, Charlie West is not your normal teen-now-adult, but I was a little thrown off with some of the fantastic elements of this story. Also, this series must be read in succession (the first book could probably be skipped without getting lost, though) to understand the whole story. I can't imagine just picking the last book up and understanding what's going on at all.

All in all, I rate this book three stars out of five stars.

The cover turns me off this book a bit, if I'm honest. There's something kind of cheesy about it. That aside, from your review, it sounds like fairly decent and good read for a teenage audience. Charlie seems to be the sort of role model parents won't complain about.
